LTCF Numbers down in York County
The number of applications to carry concealed firearms appears to be retreating back to the numbers seen in the pre-Aurora and pre-Sandy Hook days.
Applications for new carry permits and renewal requests in the York County Sheriff's Office dropped dramatically over the summer and fall.
Following the July 20, 2012 shootings in Aurora, Col., the sheriff's department said it handled between 45 and 65 carry permit requests a day.
And in the aftermath of the Dec. 12, 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shootings, an average of 85 people a day made a trip to the Judicial Center and the sheriff's office to apply for a permit or to renew an expiring permit.
A new "license to carry office," where gun owners can go to apply for carry permits, opened up next door to the sheriff's office in the Judicial Center on Dec. 6 to handle the higher number of applications.
But since June, the average number of conceal carry applications has leveled off to 345 requests per month, according to statistics supplied by the sheriff's permit office.
Sgt. Wes Williams, who oversees the permit office, emphasized that "there is no hard data," but believed that the rush to apply for carry permits last year and in January and February of this year was "a knee-jerk" reaction following the two mass shootings and a fear that the government was moving toward banning some guns.
So far this year, York County gun-owners have applied for 6,390 new permits and 3,998 renewals. And the sheriff's department issued 10,444 permits this year. Issued permits lag somewhat behind the applications in the sheriff's monthly totals because some of this year's permits were applied for last year.

Re: LTCF Numbers down in York County
Misleading YDR title is misleading. The title seems to state that the number of people that have LCTFs have dropped or "plummeted" as they put it. But you have to read the article to figure out thats not the case. In reality, its just the amount of applications coming in that have slowed, and the amount of LCTF holders in York County continues to rise every day. I would like to see the current amount of LCTF holders at the end of this year as compared to the end of last year...

OC have any impact? Probably negligible.
Things settle down. It's a natural reaction.

Re: LTCF Numbers down in York County
well yeah, there are a finite number of people in York who are eligible for LTCF's (and a smaller finite number of those who want one), so it's impossible for the number to skyrocket year after year. Total non-issue.

You can see the PSP firearms reports for the last 15 years here.

York co. issued over 10K ltcf in 2012, when the 2013 report is released early next year we can see how many more citizens applied.

Re: LTCF Numbers down in York County
Well.....
If many people rushed to get their LTCF in 2012...
They wouldn't expire until 2017...
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Of course the # of NEW applicants would not maintain unless more people poured into the state.
Maybe everyone already has oneLast edited by BimmerJon; December 18th, 2013 at 11:24 AM.
