NJ Dems Have 20 Gun Control Bills Lined Up If Murphy Becomes Governor

After years of being thwarted by Governor Chris Christie's (R) veto pen, the Democrat-dominated New Jersey Legislature is chomping at the bit over the prospect of Phil Murphy (D) becoming Governor. This includes Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D), who already has 20 gun control bills lined up for Murphy to sign if and when he gets elected.

NJ 101.5 recently did an article on Weinberg's endless quest to push smart guns, including how her dream gun was recently defeated by a refrigerator magnet. When asked about future laws governing firearms in NJ if Murphy gets elected, the Democratic leader said:

“I’ve already told Ambassador Murphy — hopefully he will be the governor — I have at least 20 bills ready the day he walks in that have all been vetoed by Gov. Christie,”

Assuming Weinberg means the same bills that were previously vetoed - Murphy will essentially be banning all semi-auto rifles, instituting a magazine capacity limit of 5 rounds, mandating home inspection for gun owners, requiring psychological evaluations to own a gun (you have to pay for that by the way), and probably much more we don't know about, if electe
    d.

Unfortunately, at least for law-abiding gun owners, Christie isn't going to be around forever to veto the endless stream of nonsense coming out of Trenton.

This is a story I will be sharing in the armed citizen thread, but I think sums up how messed up NJ is. Basically a guy defended himself and was found to be justified of self defense. But because it's New Jersey where it is almost impossible to get the states permission to defend yourself, he was guilty of unlawful possession of a weapon. He will be out of jail in 1 year after parole on his mandatory 5 year sentence.

Man gets 1 year in jail in fatal shooting -- because it was self-defense: attorney

    http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2...g_a_robbe.html
JERSEY CITY -- The lawyer representing the last of two men sentenced on gun charges connected to a fatal shooting in Jersey City in 2015 said no one was charged in the killing because it was in self-defense during a robbery by the victim.

"My client (Aaron Lofton) and Lester Smith were at IHOP when the victim in the case (Tyreek McCord) walks up and puts a gun to Mr. Lofton's head and he asked for jewelry, money and his wallet," attorney James Lisa said today.

Lisa, who represented Lofton at his sentencing on Friday, continued saying, "Lester Smith drew a gun from inside the car they were in and shot Mr. McCord in defense of Mr. Lofton."

No one has been charged with McCord's homicide, which Lisa said was captured on video.

Lofton, who had pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon, was sentenced to 364 days in Hudson County jail in Kearny on Friday in Jersey City by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Patrick Arre. He has about 90 more days to serve before being released, Lisa said.

Tyreek McCord died Nov. 21, 2015 after being shot multiple times outside the IHOP on Route 440 at about 4 a.m. He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center by friends and pronounced dead, officials said at the time.

Lofton and Smith were charged with weapons offenses in connection to that incident.

Smith pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a handgun and was sentenced to five years in prison with no chance of parole until after serving one year.

Smith is serving that sentence concurrent to a five-year sentence for a June 2016 Middlesex County incident in which he was convicted of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and aggravated assault. His maximum release date is June 2020, state corrections records say.

Prior to being shot dead, McCord had recently been released from incarceration. Records indicate he was convicted of aggravated assault, theft, and receiving stolen property in 2014.

When McCord's mother was looking for assistance covering the funeral costs for her son through the federally funded Crime Victims Fund, she was denied financial help, she told The Jersey Journal in February last year.

The mother said she was told that her son was being investigated, possibly for robbery related to his fatal shooting, and that she would not have access to the funding. The mother was confounded by the fact no one was charged in her son's death.

An additional arrest was made outside McCord's funeral service. Yazmir Delbridge, 19, was charged with possession of a handgun following a traffic stop.

Bring them on: sign all twenty, and show the world what a bunch of azzwipes you and your party really are.

These bills will only make it easier to fight them at the highest levels of the federal court, and bring the remaining gun owners in NJ some relief. These wins will be even easier when the next two or three of Trumps appointments take their seats. I look forward to seeing 50 constitutional carry crows in this meme within the decade.

Voters elected them into office. Just like some other states CA, NY to name a few; there is not enough pro second amendment voters that live there to make a difference.

From what I read there they got jail for unlawful possession of a firearm. Every time there is a shooting the first thing that they do is check to see if the shooter was permitted to own the weapon, self defense or homicide and if not permitted unlawful possession gets added to the list of charges.
