Where to get AK 47 barrels?
I was looking at a kit without a barrel. (AMD 65)
Where can I find AK barrels? And what kinds can I use in the AMD front / barrel trunion? Can I buy a Yugo or Romanian barrel and use that? Or do I NEED to find an AMD barrel? I'm not worried about using a 16" barrel in an AMD or it being true to AMD form etc. I just want to fool around with putting one of these kits together. If it doesn't work out - it doesn't work out.
Where can I find AK (7.62x39mm) barrels? New / used / American / Com Block - IDC. Where can I get them? (As long as they will fit in the front trunion of the AMD, it's good enough for me.) I assume RPK/D variants will not fit in the AMD barrel trunion, correct?
I think BCS is an undrilled Romanian one so if I decide to do a SBR version (like the AMD or perhaps even shorter...) I can set up the gas hole where I need it. (And it would almost for sure be chrome lined.)
I've been searching around and I can't really find any. I realize that it is because of the importation ban on barrels. But I can't even find American ones?
If I can find a suitable barrel then I will buy the kit or (two) and take a stab at it. But if I can't find a barrel it really limits the usefulness of me buying a parts kit.
Anyone have any suggestions please?

Re: Where to get AK 47 barrels?
Copes has RPK barrels... that's it.
I have no problem using one if it would fit the AMD barrel trunion but something tells me the heavy barrels aren't going to fit. Guess I'll have to check with Arsenal. Piss...

Re: Where to get AK 47 barrels?
Were they yugo or Russian/Romanian?
Fuggers were supposed to LMK when they got yugo's in. Buy it dosent matter now, I scored a genuine NOS Yugo barrel in the white, no holes drilled or cuts made, For $200.
Yeah, Im happy.
As far as the fit in your trunion, there is a trean where guys are using cut down Yugo RPK barrels in AKM trunions to hake a Heavy barrel AKM. With the fins and heavy profile they look killer. Im probably going to do this as its only the muzzle end of my kit barrel that looks questionable.
Ill see if I can find a pic.

Here is a pic of an RPK72 barrel on what I think is a Yugo 70 kit.
Pretty sweet!!

Re: Where to get AK 47 barrels?
RPK barrels will not fit in your AMD kit without modifications to your trunnion or barrel.
I'm not sure what barrel you would need, but I would guess that a Rommy might work.
If you want to get a definite answer go to www.theakforum.net and ask in their "Build" section. Please post back the info that you get from there.
I was going to suggest copes but you said that they don't have any, try apex gun parts.

Re: Where to get AK 47 barrels?
That is COOL. Can we maybe find a picture of an "AK" AMD/ROMAK/YUGO profile barrel and compare it to a RPK /RPD style heavy barrel? I would love to see what the differences are at the trunion. (Probably the hardest pictures to find ever.)
I'm guessing due to the heavy barrel profile of the RPK/D barrel you would have to use a gas block from an RPK/D as well. And a sight block, handguard clamp, etc.
But in all seriousness... if you were doing a SBR... the heavy RPK/D barrel would probably be worth all the bullshit in the end. Not to mention... could you imagine the AMD skeletal form with that ribbing peeking out between the slots...
I guess you could probably turn down the barrel at the gas block and then cut it. And thread it install the tapco AMD break / extension piece, time it and weld it. Right? That would just leave you with a handguard clamp to deal with.
What do the trunion sides of these barrels look like and how do they differ?
