Looking for a single stage press. Suggestions?

I've been using a Lee Hand Press for a while but I am looking to step up to a bench mounted press. I am loading 30-30,_7.62x54r and .223.
I don't know much about single stage presses so I am looking for advice.

Rcbs rock crusher is the standard

I prefer the Hornady lock n load, because switching out dies is very easy.

I have a RCBS from ages ago. and a rotary Hornady progressive press. Both work great.
However, lee makes a model that routes the old primers down though the press into a waiting trashcan. Thats a nifty feature.

Rock Chucker or Hornady Lock n Load. I use the Hornady to load my rifle calibers, works great but the Rock Chucker is just as good if not better.

It also is of the breech lock design so if you were using the breech locks in your hand press you can continue using the same ones.

Yes that is the one that I have. It has a flexable hose and catches all of the spent primers and shoots them right into my little trash can. Hasn't missed one yet.

Some of us go both ways

Without further specific requirements, the RCBS Rockchucker and the Hornady LNL Classic are excellent single stage choices. The LNL bushing system adds expense, but most folks say it makes it easier to install your dies without losing the last adjustment. Either should last you a lifetime and is capable of making quality ammo.

If you want/need additional bells and whistles, Hornady has a new press called the Iron Press. For more money you get an ambidextrous press, places to hang case prep tools and dies, and the priming system is pretty much the same system used on the Hornady progressive press so it may be practical to actually prime on the press.

Other presses: Lee occupies the value segment, while the Forster Co-ax and Redding Big Boss have some market share in the quality segment.

Your budget and watching some Youtube videos of the presses in use might help you choose.

I have the Lee Classic Cast. Looked at the Breech Lock but it can't handle the large series of dies (1 1/4 X 12). If you have no need for the large dies and are going to use only 7/8 X 14 dies then the Breech Lock or Hornady would suite you well. If you are looking down the road to reload odd calibers such as 577 450 Martini Henry that require 1 x 10 or 1 1/4 X 12 dies then you should get a press that has a removable insert where the dies screw in. X 12 dies usually just screw right into the top of the press after removing the insert. Other inserts are available so you can use specialized dies that are larger than 7/8". Most like the Rock Chucker and Classic Cast are like that.

I have a Rock Chucker but find the primer catching system with the silly little tray to be a pain. Would rather they fall out through the bottom or into a tube.
