Seems to me that I remember old timers taking deer with .410 when I was a kid. I can't say how dropping a deer with a .410 would relate in comparison to a crackheads toughness and stamina, but I would suspect it to get the job done. I know I wouldn't want to get bit with one. (.410 not crackhead)

Go with a 20 Gauge at least ! If you go with a 12 guage load it with the 2 1/4 shells but go no higher than 2 1/2's in the house. Expect to have ringing ears for about 3 or 4 days. It's better than being killed anyway !

    I would use a 12 gauge personally, but I wouldn't feel unarmed with a .410.

It would do the job imho. Not ideal, but the buck shot
Would work. I'll be, glad to buy anyone some pcp and shoot them with one of they doubt it.
Side, note why the hell does everyone want to shoot snakes? Just walk away. Christ!

AND, that was with birdshot! Imagine how you would feel if, within say 30-35 yards, a column consisting of 5 (ea.) 70 grain 000 Buck (MV-1100 fps) whacked you?

    Big OUCH!

would it hurt....definetly....would it stop me from shooting back? maybe.
They make a round now that has several flat discs lined up in the shell. This would be your best bet I think. As long as your in home protection ranges, not only will you get more porjectiles but since they are arched discs they will not fly strait and will give you a decent spread at short ranges.

That's what my wifey's Mossy HS410 is loaded with and I can tell you, it did some deadly damage to a half dozen coyotes last year. Nasty stuff!!

I got some of these for my Judge, I definatly think that they would do the trick. I only shot paper stapled to mine belting, and the discs left indents in the belting at about 7-8 yards. It surprised me with the indents, mine belt is pretty tough.
