    Points for the username.

It's good that only the wall was harmed. Hopefully this is a major wake up call for you and a reminder for any who reads the post, guns are not toys. I sharedhttp://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=322831 this story last month where a man screwed up and shot his daughter killing her. Some basic rules to always remember

    1. ALWAYS treat your gun like it is loaded
    2. Never point it at another person, (unless in a self defense situation.)
    3. Don't point it at anything you are not willing to destroy
    4. Keep your finger off the trigger until on target.
    5. Always know what your target is and what is beyond it.

You've owned the problem and not blamed anything else which is a plus. You've also showed yourself that you are not as proficient as you need to be. There are tons of YouTube videos on safety that you can watch to start drilling good habits into your head. Get to the range and practice practice practice. Make this your last ND ever.

Good luck and be glad it was a cheap lesson that you will never forget.

Hey you should get some snap caps!

Tattoo this on the inside of your eyelids, and on your forehead. in reverse so you see it every time you look in the mirror
Kudos for manning up on an ND and NOT trying to blame it on the weapon.

You know I get nervous even looking down the barrel on any firearm? even when I know for a fact its empty,
Even if the bolts out, barrels on the bench or the uppers off the lower. To me That IS where the Angel of death lives. Going to places like Cabelas gives me the heebeejeebees because I'll get swept 3-8 times by the yoyos with an AR-AK from the used gun rack

And it can happen to any of us. Anyone that thinks they will never do it are over confident

I have an adjustable trigger on my .45, I made it too light and put a mag in with 1 round, pistol went off when I dropped the slide and barely put my finger on the trigger. I was at the range.
I put it back and never tried messing around with it again..
Scared the crap out of me because I wasn't on the target

I appreciate the stories everyone is sharing. Some a bit silly like the story from Rock Island. Some heartbreaking like the story Internet troll shared. As gun owners we are all in this together. Glad we can learn from each other. I am going to be honest I didn't sleep well after my ND. Makes me sick to my stomach at how careless I was. Trip to the range next chance i get and looking into some training in Philadelphia. Need to rebuild that confidence without sacrificing my safety. Still have to get over to home depot first lol.

Nobody was hurt.. and you learned from it.. bet you take your time from now on ;-)

My wife and family are all long time hunters and NRA folks..but really don't push safety as hard as I think they should. I always push safety, specifically muzzle direction, with my stepsons.
While hunting one Fall we all met back at the cars and were unloading our firearms.. My wife's 30-30 lever I was using discharged while running the shells out. Luckily it was pointed at a deep snow mound in front of a soft bank.
I looked at my stepsons and said "And that is exactly why you always know what the muzzle is facing and what is out there!"
Long story the family doubted me and thought I caused the ND.. the following year my wife was using it and it did it again.. Now it is in the back of the safe as a museum piece with a tag "do not use, prone to accidental discharges"
