2019 Archery season freezer candidates

In a way, yes.
I've been lucky early in the season before and gotten skunked for a doe.

I have 2 tags left. A 2B and a 2A.
Early old man rifle season for doe comes in on Oct 24 thru 26th.

I'm getting the headspace checked on a National Ordinance 1993A3, my Ishapore 2A1 and my Spanish FR8
I'd like to score a doe with these milsurps so prep time (loading rounds and shooting them) with these rifles will keep me busy.

When I get the meat back from this small buck, I'll see what freezer space I have and might try for a doe in the back yard.

Theres a pretty large tract of land out near Avella. Its privately owned but open to hunters. Nice area for archery if you might be interested. I've hunted there for 40 years.

The deer are still nocturnal in my neck of the woods. Got plenty of pictures of deer between 9pm and midnight. HOWEVER, I went outside on to my deck last night around 7:45. It was cloudy so it was getting dark, it would have still been light enough to take a shot. But in my neighbor's yard was a giant deer. BIG bodied and seemed like a nice rack. It was too dark to count points, but he was a trophy. I look at him, he looked at me, then pranced off into the woods.

The old crossbow will be brought out and I'll be sitting in my shed with the doors and windows open. I hope he comes back and walks into my yard!!!!!!!

I pulled an SD card out of a camera and got this shot.

This was maybe a minute or less before I shot.

My stand is about 12 to 13 yards to the left of where he's standing and 20 feet up.
His angle made me hesitate to pull the trigger but I felt it would pass through which it did. It did nick the gut and landed just to the right of where he's standing.

A couple other cams around the same spot got nothing. Wierd.

I put a camera over the gut pile and only got a few deer interested. Last year, the gut pile off that 9 point was exactly in the same spot.
One doe sniffed the camera and I got an eyeball shot but cant load that card onto flickr yet.

OK, that should be it unless I'm lucky enough to score a doe either from the same tree or in Avella during the old mans rifle doe season or the regular second week of rifle.

Maybe the old National Ordinance 1903A3 will check OK for head space tomorrow and I can try it out. I loaded 20 rounds and will head to the range after the visit to Ace Sporting Goods.

The camera on the gut pile resulted in only a few deer visiting.
No other wildlife.
Last year there were deer, raccoons, foxes and a yote on the gut pile.
It is gone now except for the stomach, which is covered with maggots.

That spot produces a lot of good trail cam photos, turkey and deer and otherwise. My absolute favorite series of photos came from that spot. Starts with just a view of a buck with some velvet hanging off of his antlers and progresses to scenes of various bucks sparring...
