Sorry, didn't notice you were from New Jersey. Your quest will be much harder than it ought to be.

That "spell check" I imagine is built into your browser. I modified my Firefox to spell check my entry forms. Select the word, right click and add it to your library. If you can, then it's your browser and not the site. I'm not aware of this forum having a spell check feature.

Re: Newbie looking for guidance
How the hell did you get a license in Jersey???
I recommend XD in .40 S&W, but definately check out different guns and find one that really fits you the best..there is no magical one gun out there that trumps all.
btw, you joined a great forum! We even come with in house tech support^^^Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth.- George Washington

Re: Newbie looking for guidance
My uncle is the chief and the captain was on of my recommendations so I guess that helped. I'm surprised how many posts there were in such a short period of time. Since my previous post I went down to Zeus and looked at various pistols and calibers. Just like most of you are saying he recommended going with the caliber that I feel good with and not just a .45. I picked up and got the feel of a SA XD .40, Ruger .45, Berreta 9mm 92FS, Sig .40, and one more I forget. The only one that felt wrong when I picked it up was the Ruger.
One thing I left out before was I'm right handed but left eye dominate. I think this is why the Ruger felt off when I picked it up and aimed it. I liked the XD, but felt like an idiot when I couldn't press the switch to drop the barrel. And like a bigger idiot because thats probably the wrong term for the part. The Berreta felt nice and liked all the safety features. They didn't have a standard size Glock and didn't look at any compacts.
The first guy I talked to was genuine and wasn't trying to BS me or sell me something I didn't need. The second is a different story, but overall it made me like a gun I wasn't looking at and dislike one I didn't know about. Next time I'll know how to handle the pistol better and fire a few rounds off.

Re: Newbie looking for guidance
We get giddy when someone new decides to harness their rights!!
on the XD are you talking about the slide release (The thing you push to let the slide go forward after it's locked back)? New firearms need a bit of break-in and familiarization, once you get used to it, it'll be no problem. Don't feel stupid about using wrong terms or saying newb stuff, everyone has been there.
Remember, you are in a firearm un-friendly state, if you are going to be concealed carrying, definately try compacts, they are easier to conceal. Good luck with your decision and congrats!

I didn't get a chance to respond in time. I figured that's what you meant.
For those unfamiliar with NJ they actually need to put themselves through the rigors of being printed and extensive background checks just to buy a handgun!
With an $800 dollar budget you'll have quite a choice.
Without getting into models. I would just go shoot and fondle as many guns as possible.FUCK BIDEN

Re: Newbie looking for guidance
just remember no firearm gets jelious if you handle others. Why not rent a few to try them out before you buy. That seems to work and some ranges have that option. Any caliber is good if you feel good using it.
