Transfer of a pistol from New York State to PA

My Dad died and owned a pistol legally in New York State. He left the pistol to my son who lives in PA and has a concealed carry permit.
We want to legally transfer the pistol to PA from NYS but do not know how to do so.
We have been given various advices as to how to do so including just UPS the pistol home. The pistol is not new.
What is the correct procedure?

Aside from the legalities, there is the practical aspect of getting the pistol to its new owner. I doubt that UPS or FedEx will be up to speed on this exception, and will likely refuse to ship a handgun to a non-FFL. I'm not even sure how to hand carry it and stay "sqeaky-clean legal" since your son can't "possess" it in NY without a NY pistol license.
