Re: hog hunters
I can give you the number for my best buddy in High School. He was a big-time hog hunter. In fact, I think he had to check out several area schools. There just weren't that many fat chi........ Wait. We aren't talking about the same thing are we? Never mind!

Re: hog hunters
In PA you'll only find "canned" hunts, that is, hunting hogs in a reserve.
Here are a few links to check out, and they're all beginner-friendly places that will guide you through.

Do a google on hog hunting in PA and one or two more places will probably show up.
If you're looking for true wild hog hunts you'll have to head south and west, mostly FL, GA, TX, etc.

Re: hog hunters
You may have to travel a little from Erie.
First what caliber rifle or handgun will you be using?
I have always found farmers that needed a little pest control. In central PA groundhogs do a number of the farmer's soy bean crops and generall cause havoc with holes etc in fields. So look for farm country where you have several hundred yards of tree lined fields. I always scouted locations where I could shoot into a hill or down into a low area from a hilltop in an effort to keep bullet from traveling. If you choose a small caliber fragmenting bullet that is a little less of a concerm. I used .243 and 7MM Rem Mag for hogs and needed space with a helpful back stop.
Once you locate some farmers, ask permission to shoot hogs on their property. Ask about safe lines of fire, locations of buildings, and any known hiking or fishing areas to avoid. Get a topological map to look places that trap your rounds.Last edited by Howard Bullock; July 5th, 2009 at 06:58 PM.

I believe you are not reading it right.
Hogs, like wild boars, not groundhogs.

Re: hog hunters
I thought there was a breeding population of hogs in or around Bedford county. Supposedly these escaped from the "canned" hunting preserves.

Go to the state Game Commission home page. There is a specific link about Wild Hog hunting.
