Anti-Gun Advocate Nabbed On Weapons Charges
(CBS) LOS ANGELES The founder of an anti-gun group will be arraigned June 21 on weapons charges, following his arrest Thursday for allegedly selling firearms to federal undercover officers, a spokesperson for the District Attorney's Office said today.
Hector "Big Weasel" Marroquin, 51 -- who founded the one-time city-funded group "No Guns" in 1996, purportedly to work against gang and gun violence in the inner city -- is charged with the sale of an assault rifle, a machine gun, two pistols and two silencers, Susan Raichel, a spokeswoman with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms told the Los Angeles Times.
It is his second weapons-related arrest in as many years.
Marroquin was arrested at his home in the 8000 block of Sixth Street in Downey, Raichel told the paper.
Agents found gang photos and writings when they raided a junkyard Marroquin owns in the 4000 block of Mason Street in South Gate, and his restaurant, Marroking Seafood and Bar, in the 7000 block of Atlantic Avenue in Cudahy, according to Raichel.
Also arrested was Sylvia Arrellano, 25, who faces the same charges, Raichel said.
The arrests are part of a nine-month investigation into weapons sales by the 18th Street gang, to which Marroquin once belonged before founding No Guns in 1996, after his son was shot.
Marroquin claimed to have helped more than 60 gang members find jobs in labor unions, according to the paper.
No Guns eventually became part of the city's L.A. Bridges anti-gang program and received $1.5 million from the city before its subcontract was canceled last year, in part because Marroquin was arrested in Hawthorne on weapons charges.
That case is still pending.

Nice! I wonder what the Brady Bunch will have to say about this one.

Re: Anti-Gun Advocate Nabbed On Weapons Charges
In the wake of the LA riots and subsequent Klinton gun ban debate/law period '92-94 I started paying closer attention to issues concerning guns, gun law, guns portrayed in the media.
Over the years I have seen several similar articles about some gun banner or close relative getting arrested for firearms violations.
I think these idiots are all about drawing attention to what people can do illegally with guns even to the point of proliferating black market weapons in their communities.
The are always about let's let big brother make such severe restrictions on gun ownership, and never about personal responsibility to do the right thing.
I feel there are anti's out there doing this on purpose, trying to get those guns into the wrong hands, and I hope they get busted like the piece of trash in the article and pay the price."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." -Edmund Burke

Probably not much in the wake of Sarah's rifle purchase. She blogs:
"And yes, I bought my son a hunting rifle for Christmas. It was purchased legally with both a DE and Brady background check from a legitimate gun dealer who knew it was a Christmas gift. Neither of us are prohibited purchasers."(article - Brady's response)

Maybe he was a plant, and the gangs were trying a new tactic to soften up some targets? Pretty smart....
