    Default Location for LTCF Application

Does one have to apply for the LTCF in the county where one resides. I live in DelCo and was wondering if it is possible to apply for a LTCF in Chester County instead of DelCo. The reason I am asking is becuase i have heard a lot of problems with applying in DelCo and as a college student i do not have the financal resources to hire a lawyer.

    Welcome to the site.

Chest County does not have a non resident.

I know plenty of people that have a Delco LTCF and had no problems. If you have a clean record you are good to go in any PA county. We are a shall issue state...

    No, no, no.
"Resident" and "non resident" is STATE residency.

Per the UFA you must apply in your county of residence if a resident of the state.

    REF: § 6109. Licenses.
    (b) Place of application.--An individual who is 21 years of
age or older may apply to a sheriff for a license to carry a
firearm concealed on or about his person or in a vehicle within
this Commonwealth. If the applicant is a resident of this
Commonwealth, he shall make application with the sheriff of the
    county in which he resides
or, if a resident of a city of the
first class, with the chief of police of that city.

You will need to apply in the county you live and be 21 to obtain an LTCF. I am not saying you are under 21, just wanted to clarify.

Thank you all very much for your help. I really appreciate it. One other question about the LTCF, I am planning on moving over a county in about a year and a half, do I have to reapply for the LTCF or have it transfered to where I am living? Again thank you all for your help.

Nope, not until it expires, then you'll apply there. Just make sure you update your DL w/in 15days.

As others have said, you MUST apply with the Sheriff's Office in the county which you live. Non-resident permits are for non-PA residents, they ARE NOT for non-county residents. Although the Sheriffs process LTCF applications for the citizens in their respective counties, they are a state permit.

If you have problems applying in DelCo, then it's either for one of two reasons:

    1. You are not eligible for some reason.
    2. Your Sheriff is not complying with the law as outlined in the UFA as it pertains to license issuance.

If it's #1, you're out of luck. If it's #2, all you can do is insist he comply with the law or possibly face legal action, or move to another county.
