Default Reducing trigger pull on a Colt 1991A1?

Hi, I just entered the world of 1911's with a Colt 1991A1. I was on a budget and I like the look and feel of the Colt 1991A1 although the Springfield and Taurus 1911's definitely were also good options that I was considering.

Anyway, I bought it on Thursday and took it to the range on Saturday. What can be done to reduce the trigger pull? This is going to be strictly a range gun but I would very much like to keep the firing pin safety in tact (I find this to be an appealing feature of the gun).

From what I understand, the 1991A1 is like a normal 80 series 1911 except it has a parkerized finish and plain sights (mine is an early one with the big roll mark).

Is there anything else I can do to increase accuracy with this gun (aside from the obvious - practice)?

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks in advance,
    -Zach

Well...lot's of options, but let's start easy.

    http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=5..._REDUCTION_KIT

    Add a 19lb mainspring.

    http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1...ION_MAINSPRING

Then set the trigger return (center leaf of your 3 leaf sear spring to about 12 ounces).

After that, we can start talking aftermarket trigger groups, but just the springs will likely make huge gains for you.

After you install, PM me for safety checks.

You guys rock! This will give me a lot to read.

Also, can you confirm the quality of the first kit that has the replacement pins? Seems silly to me to put inferior parts in for a short term benefit.

    Thanks!

Cylinder and Slide does not make junk.

They're better trigger groups often drop in at 3 pounds or better.

All my 1911's have C&S trigger groups in them-couldn't stop after the first one. Very good product.

Just doing a lot of firing and dry firing will help with the trigger pull.

What Lycanonthemoneythrope said above, PLUS add a small drop of Tetra Grease to the contact points in the lockwork.
