I don't know, but I spent that shit pronto before I had time to get practical in my thinking and use it for something like bills, or food.

Hell, you can get like 10 or 12 cup of noddles for like a buck or two at walmart.
You wont die from them, at least in a few weeks.

Thats how you buy cool shit; pb&j, rice and chicken bullion, bologna on hand and a ketchup packet (go cheap, no bread)
    HGW, llc ~ Title 1 & NFA sales/manufacturing ~ Transfers - Title 1 $20 - NFA $50

I'm very familiar with this method.
Work should be starting soon and with the "bonus money" discovery, I decided to splurge to move up the timetable on this build.

I also ordered a Seekins adjustable gas block, Spike's gas tube, and a Voodoo Tactical JETCOMP muzzle device (seen a few posts above) from Joebob's today.

I'll be looking for a hand guard. I'm hoping to find a used one for a reasonable price, but that isn't going so well.
I broke down and went to arfcom to look at the classifieds for one. Now I see why so many people complain about people who want full retail price for used, scratched up shit. I swear everyone there thinks their shit is made of gold.
Whatever. Even if I need to buy new, I can get an Aero quantum 12" for $110 new.

Now it's time to focus on a bolt carrier group.
Was thinking of getting one of AIM's, but I'll look around before deciding on that.

    Things are shaping up nicely.

My upper is finished being assembled - I just need to pick it up from my gunsmith.

All I need now is a BCG and some mags!

I'm getting a used Rainier Arms Evolution 11" handguard off a guy on arfcom.
Should be here by the end of next week or so.

    His classified pic...

In general, I hate Keymod because the holes look like heavy duty shelving slots.
They aren't as prominent on this design so I can live with it. The price paid makes it even easier to live with.
Getting it already painted like that will make it easier for me to get crazy and paint the whole rifle!

Not sure about the color. Will have to see it in person. He said it's Field Drab 30118

    Yes.

Apparently the design has been around for a while. No proprietary mounting nut or wrench needed.
Samson makes the Rainier Arms Evolution rail. In this video, the installation is shown within the first minute.

Couple more pics of the Voodoo Innovations Jet Comp (avail in 5.56 as well)

Also the Seekins Precision adjustable gas block

Side view. 3 large side ports and two round ports on top

    No ports on bottom...

Adjustable gas block. (I used a Spikes midlength gas tube)

Couple of last questions as this wraps up...

    1. Anyone have any input on bolt carrier groups?

Who makes good ones, what to avoid, any sources for this type of info?

I'm familiar with the "enhanced firing pin" for harder primers on imported steel case ammo and that's something I'll look for in a BCG because I'll likely be feeding this steel case, I just don't know who to look at for a decent quality BCG. Something around $100 would be OK - maybe more if I have to - I'm just not spending something like $250 on one.

    2. Parts upgrades?

    The following have been suggested:
    a. May want to use a heavy buffer - any thoughts? Reasons why?

    b. Reduced power disconnector spring - any thoughts? Reasons why?

    c. Heavy hammer spring - any thoughts? Reasons why?

(I have an ALG Defense ACT trigger that I'll be using in this if that helps to answer anything)

I poked around arfcom and other places for info on bolt carrier groups and the only unanimous decision is that LMT is the only BCG that is "worthy" of use.

That said, I'm not paying $263 + shipping for one. (oh, that's not for a BCG - it's JUST the assembled BOLT)
As far as "all other inferior units" go, I'm not finding much to go on, so I think I'll just get the $99 or the $109 BCG from AIM Surplus and call it a day. As near as I can tell, the only difference between those two is that the one that's $109 is Nitride coated.
I don't honestly know what that means and I assume it's just a "slick" coating - maybe it would be easier to clean?

I'm not ordering it yet though, so if anyone does have a better alternative to suggest, please say so.
