I would assume he thinks this would inherently cut back on people skipping local background checks by going to another county sheriff. He isn't saying anything at all about not doing them in its entirety.
personally,I don't think you should have to be tied to the county you live in as long as you live in Pennsylvania. There is too much of a difference in the quality of the different sheriff offices in Pennsylvania. Why should I have to jump through extra hoops because I live in Philadelphia vs being in a sheriff's office in a county which does things in 15 minutes. In my opinion the current system gives sheriffs too much power over honest citizens.

I agree the process should be the same state wide but it isn't.... I had to jump though a hoop to update my LTCF from Lancaster (that takes 15 min) to Delaware who takes 45 days... It's just the wait the cookie crumbles. Like I was saying some took that quote out of context and I was just hinting on it

"Too much difference in the quality of sheriffs". This inconsistency is what the state supreme court ruled on some years ago which ushered in the shall issue permit system that was supposed to correct the differences.
Gun stores and gun clubs should post this democrat's comments. Gun owners must take advantage of their numbers in the voting process.

I read this in our local small time newspaper and was quite irritated. Philly's response is that some senator over 100 miles away is meddling in "how we do things in Philly". Senator Alloway is introducing a bill that says if you don't want to go through the approval process in your county for some reason, you can do it in an adjoining county. It is no surprise that this gun control democrat says he would never approve someone outside of Delaware County if he was elected. Also, unsaid, that if he had the ability act like Philly in how they issued LCTFs, he would probably do that also.
It's just magical how the majority of the democrats think that restricting guns will make crime and violence go away. "Just make it against the law!" and "we'll be safe".

Letter to the Editor: Keep locals in control of issuing gun permits

To the Times: As the Democratic candidate for Delaware County sheriff, I am calling on the county’s state senators and state representatives to denounce the proposed bill that state Sen. Richard Alloway, R-Adams County, will be submitting any day. Alloway’s bill, if enacted into law, will take away local control in issuing permits to carry a concealed firearm from the local sheriff’s department and pass it on to other county sheriff departments within Pennsylvania.

If I am elected as your sheriff on Nov. 5, I will not issue any permits to any Pennsylvania resident who live outside Delaware County. In our society of gun violence, it is clear that a large majority of Americans want to see mandatory background checks at all sales of firearms. I believe the same majority want their county sheriff to be more responsible in issuing permits to those citizens who want to carry a concealed weapon.
State law requires that each county sheriff is charged with issuing and renewing permits to owners who want to carry a concealed gun. The reason was so that the sheriff would be able to check with the neighbors and the local police who may know the applicant. If the neighbors or the local police believe that the applicant is not a good, responsible person, then the permit can be denied.

Sen. Alloway’s bill will take the control away from the local sheriff and pass it on to a sheriff in another county within the state. His law will make it easier for thousands of Pennsylvania residents, who normally would be denied in their home county, to shop around and find a sheriff department that has a lenient background policy and obtain a permit to carry a concealed gun throughout the state.

As a veteran and a gun owner myself, I support the U.S. Constitution and the Second Amendment. But as your sheriff, I will not take any donations from the National Rifle Association and I will do whatever I can to make Delaware County safer for all of our towns and boroughs.

I'm of Italian descent, and I'm sorry, but the only thing that scares me more than a candidate for Sheriff named Rocco Polidoro is an INSURANCE AGENT candidate for Sheriff named Rocco Polidoro.

I don't think I've EVER dealt with an insurance agent that wasn't a complete snake.

I agree what a moron. Most people who are elected sheriff have little to no law enforcement experience. It's more of an admin job than anything. The current sheriff I believe was a photographer before and the women running on the Republican ticket is in-house counsel for AQUA. I've met her before and I have to be honest I am not too impressed but I will be voting for her over the other clown the democrats put up.

I'm trying to figure out what Sheriff is actually interviewing neighbors to do the background check? I thought most of them simply called PICS...

I think it might be good for people to be able to apply for an LTCF in another county. That would effectively render the Philly GPU null and void.
