Suspended Mount Pleasant Police Oficer Ordered to Trial in Attempted Rape, Assault

MOUNT PLEASANT, Pa. —

A Mount Pleasant police officer accused of assaulting a woman who rejected his sexual advances was ordered Friday to stand trial.
John Brown, 43, has been suspended since it was learned that he allegedly attempted to rape the woman in December.

Investigators said Brown invited the woman to his Westmoreland County home, where the attempted rape occurred. When the woman rejected his advances, he choked and hit her.

“First of all, I think we have to be very careful when unfounded allegations are made, because they can potentially ruin a person’s life forever,” Brown’s attorney, Valerie Veltri, said.

Charges including attempted rape and assault were held for court Friday.

“I think until all facts and evidence are in, we don’t know. We don’t know the story,” Veltri said. “We are definitely putting up a vigorous defense.”
