If'n I was to get another 1911, It'd be a Tisas Tank Commander. $369 at Family Firearms, $379 at Battlehawk.

Re: 1911 for carry. a production or a custom model?
Here's more opinion on 1911s:
Springfield makes a pretty nice copy in terms of quality control and having the holes in the right places. There are some frame contour differences but in general the pistols are very well made and respond well to custom work and repair.
The Rock Island guns, the ones made in the Philippines, are so abysmal in quality and quality control that I decline to work on them. Parts out of spec., holes not in the right places, hand fitted parts full of out of square edges, rounded off engagement surfaces, the list goes on and on.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Re: 1911 for carry. a production or a custom model?
I'm speaking in general terms. Even high end manufacturers let out a turd every now and again. It stands to reason that subpar manufacturers will send out a nicely made sample from time to time as well.
I suppose the question with your particular pistol would be how accurate is it? and how long will it stay that way?
Military 1911s will maintain accuracy standards over many thousands of rounds. Optimized pistols will deliver better accuracy and maintain that level of accuracy for a very long time as well.
With proper maintenance and lubrication I'm talking 10s of thousands of rounds. Most of us couldn't afford the ammo needed to get to barrel replacement time, let alone using up a frame.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter
