Re: Harbor Freight rifle case
At that price (even with the 20% off coupon), why not the Plano All Weather series? Same idea, USA made, and, surprisingly enough, cheaper.

Re: Harbor Freight rifle case
It has to be securely cased. Reasoning is if they can spread the case enough to get a hand in, they could get a gun out and it isn't securely cased.
It's not like they're out there with a set of calipers measuring for 1.000", but if you only have a padlock on only one end, or have padlocks with 6" loops, or have one of the thinshell Plano cases that you can twist enough to get a gun out of without unlocking, then it isn't securely cased.
TSA is also given a lot of discretion on the ground about what does or doesn't get let in the plane.
So I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to get a gun out of one of these cases with padlocks installed and all of the latches open.

Re: Harbor Freight rifle case
I just got it at lunch today. I had a raincheck and a $99 coupon.
There are only 2 lock points about 7" in from each end. While this positioning gives great strength to the seal at the ends, I do wish there was another locking point closer to the middle. I realize it would not work in the very center, because the lock would bang your knuckles when youd grab the carry handle.
I "locked" it with some zip ties (I will need to get some decent locks for it if I travel), and I tried to pry it open. I was only able to pry it open about 1/4" with my hands. you might to better with a pry bar but that would destroy it and I'm not willing to do that.

or for an additional $100 get a quality pelican to protect your investments during travel. if you don't need that much protection, buy a $20 hard case.

Re: Harbor Freight rifle case
If you don't travel I don't see the point. I sold my pelican case with a rifle because it was ridiculously too big to lug to the gun range. I dented my truck with it twice and smashed my thumb against the door frame. Rifle bags take up less room.
