Is This Spotting Scope Worth A Pee?
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c....aspx?a=733406
I can get it for $22 or so with discount. Just to use at range out to most 200 yards but likely 100 yards and in.

What will your target be?
You'll most likely be able to see .22 holes on a white background or on Shoot-n-see targets up to 200 yards. It will be difficult to see .22 holes at 100 yards on a black target. You probably won't be able to see even 30 cal holes at 200 yards on a black target.
For that $ it's not that much of a risk that it won't meet your needs.Last edited by Hawk; May 14th, 2014 at 09:18 AM.

For that price do not expect much. The quality of the optical lenses will be low. Cheap glass does not perform well in low light situations, appears grainy, and is likely to fog or leak in the rain.
For the price, take the chance. If you're willing to gamble $25 +shipping fees it may be worth a try.

I am willing to step it up to say 50-75 if there is any improvement in that range. I just need to see how it hit the paper out to 100 yards mostly, maybe longer in the future.

It may work under ideal conditions, but in this case I think you get what you pay for.
Reviews on Amazon are not overwhelmingly positive either.
Don't expect much from the tripod either. I have a 20X spotting scope that came with a crappy tripod. I replaced the tripod with one I use for my cameras.MikeP

I got this scope as a gift.
I don't use it beyond 100 yards. 25 - 50 is my typical range for 22LR and 9mm plinking.MikeP

Re: Is This Spotting Scope Worth A Pee?
I bought a 20-60 x 60 spotting scope sold by Harbor Freight for $39 knowing it had limitations. Some can be worked around, some can't.
Optics need to do more than just magnify what makes it through the front lens. The system and grade of glass is what one pays for.
I think it would be accurate to say that very cheap scopes have two aggravating characteristics in common... positioning of the eye to look through the scope is critical both in centering and in eye relief (distance), and focusing knob focus has to be perfect.
To answer the question will it suffice.... I would say at 100 yards, yes, ifyou keep the bullets out of the black. I can't think of a reason to have shots print in the black during practice. The black is something to aim at. Getting a group under 1/2", printed in the white two inches high at 12 o'clock will be readable with the cheap scope and accomplish the same thing as centered in the black.
For 200 yards, a target that shows hits with color change might help, can't say for sure, haven't tried it.

Re: Is This Spotting Scope Worth A Pee?
I bought this spotting scope from sportsmans guide a few years ago....
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c...aspx?a=1516596
I am extremely happy with it. .223 holes are hard to see in darker targets at 200 yards, but lighter targets and .30 cal holes are pretty easy to pick up. We have a 18" x 32" steel plate at 200 yards and I have to zoom out a little to get the hole target in view. I have used it to spot hits on gallons of water out to 425. I got mine on sale for $32, looks like they got good reviews and raised the price point. I'd try to wait for a sale, I couldn't be happier with mine. Good luck.
