Spring Gobbler 2012
Went out this morning, heard some toms in the distance gobbling, but didn't see a single bird until I was hiking out of the woods at noon.
Anyone have any luck?

Don't have the energy to get up at 4:30 or so in the morning.

Re: Spring Gobbler 2012
I didn't see or hear any turkeys. This was my first attempt at turkey hunting...pretty disappointing.

Got out late, but had a decent day.
Called for awhile, had four hens show up. Heard two or three diff gobblers. Spooked 6 deer while moving to another location to call.
Beautifull day to be in the woods

I've hear and see turkeys all the time. Literally had them in my back yard earlier in the week. I didn't hear or see anything opening day.

Re: Spring Gobbler 2012
Went outto my spot in the backyard this morning around 5:45. Heard a gobble around 6:15. Another one an hour later. Both times about a 100 yards off. Had a young hen walk by around 8:00. Around 9 3 jakes and 3 hens snuck up on me to within 15 feet. Love ASAT camo. The one Jake was gobbling but only had a 3 inch beard and wasn't strutting. So I messed with him for an hour or so with the slate call getting him to go crazy. Finally gave up, they walked away and I called it a morning. It sure was cold out.

Ok so the news turns it into a "shoulda been wearing orange thing". It's clearly "stop randomly shooting at stuff you can't identify" thing. Of course an orange strip above you when you're seated is a great idea. And orange while moving around is too, but for the love of god, please identify you're target first and don't blindy shoot at shit in the woods because "it made a sound".
