Attempted purchase? Among other things, these guys could of been charged for lying on the federal 4473 if PICS was initiated. They will probably go on to have a career in chicago politics.

Screen cap or it didn't happen.... oh, wait....

Yeah, strange that there's no more to be found anywhere on this. It must be a
    CONSPIRACY and a COVER UP

Good thinking with the screen cap, BTW.

    Found it.

Honesty is key when applying to buy firearm

By Kathie O. Warco, Staff writer kwarco@observer-reporter.com

Honesty is the best policy when filling out paperwork to purchase a firearm, even if it means in the long run that you won't get to buy that gun.

Police in South Strabane and North Franklin townships are finding people are not being forthcoming on the applications that must be filled out at gun dealerships as required by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

South Strabane police charged three people Tuesday with providing false information on the applications and unsworn falsification when trying to purchase guns at Dick's Sporting Goods, Strabane Square.

North Franklin police were preparing charges against a person who wanted to buy a gun at Gander Mountain, Washington Crown Center.

"Legally, when a person purchases a firearm from a licensed gun dealer, the buyer must fill out the form," said South Strabane police Detective John Bruner. "If a person provides false information on this form, it is a crime.

"Specifically, the form asks numerous questions including whether you have been convicted of a felony, have you ever been committed to a mental institution and are you the subject of a restraining or protection-from-abuse order," he added.

The form also asks if the applicant is under indictment or has been adjudicated mentally defective.

"You can't believe what people forget, like being committed to a mental institution," said North Franklin police Chief Rich Horner. "They forget they still have a PFA against them."

If an applicant is denied, a challenge can be filed, but very few are, Horner added. He said it usually takes state police about six months after the application was made to notify local police if there was a problem.

Bruner said others have been charged in the past after applying to purchase guns at the other two gun dealers in the township, Ace Sporting Goods on Washington Road and Walmart, Trinity Point.

Charged by South Strabane police were Derrek James Hill, 24, of McKeesport; Christopher Raymond Shanks, 24, of 353 Festival Road, Washington; and Jeremy James Snyder, 28, of 1250 Washington Road, Prosperity.

Bruner said police handle about 1,000 such cases across the state yearly.

"We get dozens and dozens of these cases, and every single one of them can be eliminated," Bruner said. "If you provide truthful information on this form, you will not be arrested."

"You may be denied the purchase of the firearm, but you will not be arrested," he added. "Our goal here is to educate and prevent."
