Re: Help pick a clay gun for my wife
Update... was tempted to buy a H&R Pardner 20 pump today since it was essentially cheap enough to toss under the bed for shooting intruders after using it a couple times, or bequeath it to our nephews in a few years. But pumps suck. Sorry pump_guys, that's a fact. I'm going to end up at a damn gun show shelling out a K buck. I can feel it.

Re: Help pick a clay gun for my wife
Your task is a lot easier if it's a "just for fun clays" in the back yard. You can easily pick up a decent used O/U or SXS for that use for under $500.
I just bought my wife a "just for fun" clays gun. A slightly used Fox model B SXS in 20 for under $400. It has a single trigger, mid bead, raised rib, nice recoil pad, cylinder bore on the right and modified on the left. 26" barrel and a shorter stock. The gun still has some weight to it to help her with recoil. It's not to much gun for her so she really likes it.
Looks like this one:

If your hot for a semi ...
Search out a used Remington 1100.
I've seen a quite a few sold in the sub $500 range...
Just keep in mind the extra barrels are kinda pricey.

Re: Help pick a clay gun for my wife
just found myself a bakiel 20 o/u ported 26 inch barrles and love it.also have a verona in 20 gauge.
now looking for a 11-87 semi to shoot some trap with new is around 7 bills and up so start with used.
recoil pad i think is a must for some women that do not like the recoil.better to buy used than new so not to use as a door stop if she does not like it.do you feel lucky punk, well do ya!

Well... if you step up a few bucks, the CZ Redhead Deluxe youth in 20 Gauge or, if you can find a Mossberg Silver Reserve youth in 20 Gauge, they go just over $500. No pretty engraving, but O/U all the same.
They are both field guns, but any competent gunsmith can add a mid-bead.
I bought my son a CZ Woodcock in .410 and it's a very nice gun. A bit more expensive than the Redhead, I'm impressed with the quality from CZ. It works for skeet and most B class sporting clays. It is really hard to shoot trap with a .410.
I've seen a lot of folks shoot Stoegers and I think they run around $700. But every Stoeger that I've been on a squad with failed at one time or another.
All of the above guns have screw in chokes (except the .410).Complete equality isn't compatible with democracy, but it is agreeable to totalitarianism. After all the only way to ensure the equality of the slothful, the inept and the immoral is to suppress everyone else. - Iain Benson
