Series 80 sticking?
Not a smithing question per se, so I'm asking here.
Background - for those who don't know, at the end of a stage at a match, part of "Unload and show Clear" for semi-autos is to pull the trigger on an empty chamber (a.k.a. dry fire). My trigger is crisp and light (3¾#), so it doesn't take but a tap on the trigger face. My problem is this:
The Series 80 plunger is pressed enough to release the firing pin for the hammer strike, but I'm off the trigger before the firing pin can reset, leaving it locked forward, projecting over ¼" from the bolt face, which interferes with the next loading process.
If instead I pull and hold the trigger I can feel a hesitation between the hammer strike and the firing pin returning home, less time than the gun cycling when shot, but noticeable (to me). As long as I remember to do this each time I'm fine, but pobody's nerfect, so I'd like to fix it mechanically.
Any ideas what the hangup might be, and do any solutions come to mind? I bought it used and I've got nearly 15,000 rounds thru it on the original firing pin spring, so that's one avenue I could investigate.

Re: Series 80 sticking?
Just hold the trigger down. When showing clear, you aren't prepping for a follow up shot so just plan "to show clear, press trigger, click, and hold." You don't need to modify a gun for a minor training issue.

Clean the firing pin, hole and spring. Replace the spring if weak, remove any burrs if present.

Re: Series 80 sticking?
New spring almost 1/2" longer than old spring. I seems like the firing pin was able to project into the empty chamber far enough that the taper on the pin engaged the hole in the bolt face, and it took a moment for the spring to bring it back. Doesn't seem to be a problem now.
