How often can I purchase a pistol?
Hi: First real post here, I recently began to collect Ruger old model single actions. I just picked up a Single Six tonight and have plans to pick up another on Saturday, while I was doing the paper work I asked the guy if there was any limit as to how often or many I could purchase. He said on handguns you were only allowed 1 every 15 days, or else the BATF may call on you. Does that sound right, because I'm sure that I have purchased more than one in 15 days before. Let me know your thoughts on this please.

Re: How often can I purchase a pistol?
WRONG !!!!
PA DOES NOT have ANY restriction on the number of pistols ( or any guns for that matter ) that may or may not be purchased in any given number of days, neither do the Feds. There IS however a requirement for Dealers to report multiple pistol sales to the same person in any five day period, but that doesnt automatically mean a visit from an ATF AgentSi vis pacem, para bellum

Re: How often can I purchase a pistol?
hes an idiot. a dealer is obligated to inform atf if you buy two or more handguns from him in one week. atf may call or they may not. if you are buying ruger single actions i doubt that they would bat an eye.
if you buy 100 handguns from 100 different dealers atf would never be notified unless the pics people did something.
in short. there is no federal limit on how often you can buy a gun and there is no pennsylvania limit.
the reason that the law requires dealers to notify atf if someone buys two or more in a week is that they use that to look for straw buyers. atf has said that states with one gun a month rules have actually hampered their efforts to catch straw buyers because now the bad guys have multiple girl friends buy one gun each instead of one girl buying a handful at a time.

Re: How often can I purchase a pistol?
as others have said, In PA, as a PA resident, you can buy as many as you like, as often as you like, however, be aware the ATF does have a "multiple sales reporting" regulation, if you buy more than one handgun in any 5 business day period from one FFL, the FFL is required to report the multiple sale to the ATF.
with enough multiple sales reports you absolutely can and may receive a visit from the ATF, I personally know 2 people who have... and the ATF showed up with the multiple sales forms."Oderint Dum Metuant" - BMFH

Re: How often can I purchase a pistol?
Don't know if anyone in the ATF has come out on the official record with this, privately they have said so.....
Anyway It’s just plain common sense as you correctly point out, all one gun a month states do is raise the cost of doing business for illegal straw buyers.
Then there is NO easy way to track them to anyone single source, so its does make the job tougher to Indentify & catch illegal straw buyers.
BTW multiple gun reporting forms worked really well with fast and furious now didn’t they?
You actually made me choke on my tea laughing when I read this……
Several session ago In PA we had several battles over trying to stop them from passing one gun a month, we generated a lot of documentation to show exactly the common sense PaBimmerGuy stated and why states have repealed there failed anti-gun "feel good", expensive, non effective experiments with one gun a month.
If you want some info here was a joint PAFOA effort on this subject to fight passage of one gun a month in PA.

To OP , Others have already covered its perfectly legal to buy as many firearms as you want for yourself at any one time.
As to why anyone needs to buy more than one gun a month, rights as well as all of our Freedoms are not just based on need
Several people have been lucky enough to win more than one firearm at a gun bash, or wanted a matched set, or lucky enough to come into some extra cash to buy several at one time is still legal in PA.Learn how to really SUPPORT the 2nd Amendment cause Go To http://www.foac-pac.org/
