Default Buying a Rifle from an out of State Manufactuerer

    Hi Guys,

I am considering buying an M4 Carbine from Palmetto State Armory in South Carolina. These guns run $499 for their base model, and I have heard they are pretty good for the money. To the best of my knowledge, these rifles are not stocked in local stores, like Tanners and the Bunker where I usually do my gun buying business.

When one buys a gun in this scenario, where it is shipped by the manufacturing company to a local dealer for end user pickup/purchase, is it usually customary for the shipping manufacturer to compensate the gun store for their service, or is the local store’s fee usually paid by the end purchaser.

This is my 1st mail order buy, so this is all new to me.

    Thanks for any clarification.

PS. If anyone has had a good or bad experience recently with PSA M4s, it would be of interest to me also

    Thanks

    Tommy

The buyer pays the FFL the fee. Whatever they charge for transfers.

You pick the FFL to ship to, pay shipping and background check. Usually need to contact the ffl you plan to ship to and request copy of their ffl license to submit/upload to shipper, unless they have it on file already from previous mail orders.

PSA should have all the answers you need in their FAQ page

Give Tanners a call and make sure they*re good with it. I used them in the past to purchase off Gunbroker but that was before ownership changed.

Given the volume I*d bet PSA has all of Tanners FFL info already.

PSA has a locator that shows FFLs near you on file with them.

The above info is correct. I will warn you though that some FFLs (usually brick & mortar shops) charge an extra for the transfer fees if coming in from the "internet". I, personally, recommend using a reputable FFL that runs a business from their house. They typically charge less and are easier to deal with.

You might want to ask Tanners what they could get you one for. They get some great deals and you might be surprised. If not there are a lot of cheaper places in the area for a transfer.
