Default How to: 1911 ambi safety installation

I am looking to put an ambidextrous safety in my new Kimber. I got a Pro TLE RLII. I am pitching the plastic mainspring housing and replacing the safety. I got the parts from Wilson and I am looking for a guide to installation. I am hoping I may get some advice here or maybe a Youtube link that would walk me through these things. Thanks.

There are a number of videos on you tube that show you how to work on your 1911. Brownell's and Cabela's also have some videos as well. Just type in what you want such as "replace mainspring housing on 1911". There are also some videos of completely stripping a 1911. Good luck.

Replacing the MSH is really easy and there are plenty of videos if you search Youtube.

Installing the thumb safety is a little harder and requires fitting. I'm sure there are videos and explanations, and while I've fitted a number of my own 1911 safeties, I wouldn't be able to explain it without demonstrating.

Take your time! If you file too much, you just need a new safety. It will be a process of removing some material, fitting, disassembling, remove a little more material, re-fit. When I did my first thumb safety I took two hours.

    Good luck!

You basicaly needs to remove old safety off of your Kimber, put it side by side with your new safety, then slowly file new one to match what old safety look like.

DO NOT HAVE ANY POWER TOOL ANYWHERE NEAR YOU AND YOUR NEW SAFETY!!!
    HAND FILING ONLY!!!

Then cut relefe on right side grip panel for right side safety(or buy new ambi cut grip panel).
I'd sugest get MSH with mag well, then get grip panel that is cut for Ambi safety, and magwell, and buy MSH with Magwell attached. Do it all once...
