Default any old Remington or Ithica experts?

I have a old(1928) Remington 17A which actually was an Ithica 37 before there was an Ithica 37 .Anyways I an needing to know if a Ith.37 barrel will interchange with the earlier 17A? The barrel on mine is just too long and choked to full which is the exact opposite I need for grouse where I hunt and I have no intentions of altering the original barrel. I have hunted high and low for a replacement but these fine guns were only made for a few yrs. so parts are rare. Any thoughts?

Thanks,Tim

the remington 10 and 29 were also variants of this browning design. a fine gun it made, suitable for lefties like nothing else before or since. did i mention that i got a good deal on a 37 today at auction? i've had the 10 and the 29, but sold them both some time ago.

in my opinion the likelihood of interchangeability is low. you have thread pitches and interruptions, as well as thread length and indexing as variables. the only way to know for sure is to find a fellow with the 4 guns in question and try it out.

I doubt you will be able to put an Ithaca barrel on the Remington. I bought a barrel for my 1976 Ithaca and was told if the serial number was below a certain #, a barrel could not be purchased for it.
