Default 12 gauge verses 16 verses 20 verses 28 prices

What is the general consensus on prices for older shotguns of the various gauges? I've seen that 20 is more expensive than 12 (esspecially in collectability) but haven't read/seen anything about 16 or 28 gauges compared to 12 or 20.
I know different manuf will command different prices, but generally a 20g is worth more that a 12, but is a 16 or 28 worth even more (or less) than the 12?
Thanks for the input
Ray

Supply and demand..

Manufacturers make more guns in 12 gauge than the others, so there is an abundance of surplus allowing for lower prices. It is a multi-purpose chambering that can do all, from killing bumblebees to taking elephant and whales.

The lessor gauges are more for filling a niche or other specialized purpose. Also for those that dont need to throw 1.0 to 2.5 ounces of shot at a target or critter, or for those that prefer less recoil. Since there are less people buying or making a demand on the market with the lessor guns, production is less, which in turn creates less supply, which in turn creates higher prices.

I personally have a soft spot for 12ga, 16ga, 28ga(especially 28), and .410bore. All of which can take upland birds and small game with ease.

It all depends on the brand you want. I bought 2 shotguns the past week on Gunbroker. One is a 12ga Mossberg "New Haven" and the other a brazilian 20ga. Bought the New Haven for $65 and the brazilian (18.5") for $55.

The New Haven has a barrel with a select choke but the Mossberg 500 bbl fits right on it. That makes it a nice and cheap 12ga pump. The brazilian I bought will be for home defense. It has a nice case with it and once I'm finished with it it should look something like this.

You can get a lot of gun for a couple bucks if you know where to look.
