All this is irrelevant to any buyer. 922 refers only to those who assemble such a weapon from imported parts. As long as you are buying an assembled firearm, the regulation has no bearing.

As always, you shouldn't get legal advice from a clerk at a gun store.

Clerk was wrong; no such laws exist. You might wish to return and inform that clerk (or his boss) that the information given to you was incorrect.

There's lot's of discussion about this on the Benelli shotgun forum. Do a search on "922r" on their forum. Here's a thread about a response from the ATF.
