Thank you all for the advice. It is very helpful. I will stay away from the Benelli and check out the Remington models and keep my eyes open for a Browning Gold.

I don't have a place to shoot yet. I am looking into some local gun clubs and there seem to be a few that are accepting new members. I also ran across a link on this forum to the Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays. I may try to go up there to get a lesson and try out a rental gun before I buy.

For now, I'm just looking to shoot some clays and perhaps try trap and skeet if I can. It's really just for fun and I don't intend to do any hunting.

Thanks again for all of your quick and thoughtful replies. Much appreciated!

Lehigh is a very good course and they offer two different difficulties at most stands - if you have a chance check out Wing Pointe located near Hamburg, PA[north of Reading] the prices for 100 birds is $8 cheaper and the course is a little easier for the beginning shooter. Not only that but there targets are all thrown using manual mechanical throwers and the guys throwing them are really nice and will give you pointers...kind of like getting a lesson without having to pay for it. Plus, you won't have to score yourself - he/she will score it for you.

That's great information. I'm really glad I joined this forum.

I was just in that area the other day checking out the used shotguns in Cabelas.

You and your hubbyare welcome to come shoot at my club as a guest anytime. We have a table trap range where you can buy clay targets and use the club's machines and throw your own birds. Great for new shooters. Little far for you, but not to bad. www.dcfs.org

And if you want to come shoot at DCFS, I have a Franchi 720 Youth (short stock) that you are welcome to borrow.

I do find, however, that I will bruise regardless of how light the recoil is on a long gun. A decent buttpad can help, as can padded vests/shirts, but for me, bruises can't be avoided. They're not painful, though.
