Default A Cheapskate's Tactical Shotgun

I'm a pistol guy, but lately I've been leaning towards buying a tactical looking shotgun (first shotgun). I wanted a short barrel (18-20"), synthetic stock, matte type finish, 5+ shot capacity, 20 ga pump. I priced a lot of shotguns, but I just didn't want to spend that much money on something I don't need. Then I found a new NEF for $141, so I looked it up online and on some forums as well. It seems a lot of people would rather spend an extra $100-150 and get a used 500 or 870, but I found a ton of info on it and none of it pointed to it being a bad gun in any way. It has a 21" barrel, a 6 shot capacity, and it fit me well, so I bought it. It works great. I added a cheap Allen ammo sleeve ($4.00) for the stock. I guess I'll just spend that extra $100 bucks on ammo!

Nice find. There's still alot of add-ons you can put on there to customize it any way you like. I found epoxy-on tritium sights, breacher barrel sleeve WITH or without sight (steal, not the cheap plastic thing that ATI sells). If you can dream it, it's out there. Check KingsArmory.com. And if you want that site for the tritium sights, I'll have to find it again, but it shouldn't be difficult to find.

Nice find though. Can't beat cheap AND reliable for something that you hopefully will never have to use ('cept for fun).

Nice find Nic!
I'd rock it without hesitation.
Been curious about those, but really don't need/ can't afford another shotty, so let it go. Now you gotta go and get me interested again... The nerve of some people.

Nothing wrong with it. they are priced well and are well made. cheap does not mean shit. some people can't get that though. can't wait to see what you do to it. -BB

nuthin wrong with it; just gonna be hard to find aftermarket add-ons for it (eg: Remington barrels, mag tube extensions, etc) since the mag tube, barrel attachment, and mag cap location differs from a Remington 870;

some of us go for Remmy or Mossy so we can have 1 shooting platform for multiple purposes (eg: my Mossberg 500 came as a combo w/ 28" field barrel and 24" rifled barrel for sabot slugs; I found a used Mossberg 500 barrel locally that a trusted gunsmith is shortening (cutting off 9.5", replacing bead sight, and removing surface rust) an older Mossy 500 barrel so I can swap barrels and use it for HD also

Outside of probably getting the tritium front bead which mounts directly over the original with epoxy, I will not be adding aftermarket parts to it. I would have bought a real tactical shotgun if I wanted all of the goodies. I didn't need a shotgun, as I don't hunt or target shoot, but for $140 bucks I got it anyway. It shoots and cycles nicely... and it has found a home in my closet for no particular reason.

Thanks for all of the replies!
