I have used both the 870(own one) and a few different mossbergs. Overall for a quality hunting shotgun, you cant beat the feel and accuracy of an 870. But mossbergs are a nice gun as well.

this article just about sums up everything 870 vs 590 related. As for me, my final decision was for the new 590's.

The older 870's are excelent, however the new 870's coming off the line are just not what they used to be.
