Re: Using a Shotgun on SGL
Yes, throw slugs at the rifle range. They will carry if they ricochet, and the ranges have solid backstops.
Shot loads....
Pick a spot and shoot in a safe direction. Know what is on the other side of your target - 50 to 100 yards on the other side of your target. Shooting into a deep area of trees or from one side of a wide open field to the other is probably safe. Know the land and use your head.
Avoid wetland areas. I don't know for sure, but using lead shot and wetland areas (even if you're not hunting) may be illegal (for the same reason you can't hunt with it).
Bring a trash bag and please make some effort to clean up after yourself. Scraps of paper and a blown to bits 2x4 are one thing, but hulls and pieces of milk jug will still be there long after we're worm food. There's nothing more that I hate than to see a beer can or other trash left behind by a hunter - and I'm a good 40 minute hike into the woods from the nearest road.
I don't think you are a tool. It's just good stewardship of the land. We (hunters) control the fate of our sport, and access to the land we like to hunt. Don't give the anti-hunting environmentalist college student hippie whack jobs any more ammunition, or we all will have to find something else to do on the 1st Monday after Thanksgiving.
