50$ 870
I just finished putting an 870 together from parts and in the end it only cost me $50 (not counting time or effort) actual dollars . Here is how I got there.
First I bought a fairly new 870 express missing barrel, bolt and trigger guard for $40 and a gun show last year. The stock was rough but the action hardly looked used.
On gunbroker I bought a bunch of parts for an 870 for $50, everything but the barrel and receiver. I installed the bolt and trigger group and sold the rest of the stuff back on gunbroker for $50. Not to shabby.
Then I bought two Mossberg 500 barrel for $5 each at Gander Mtn. I sold these on gunbroker, for a profit and used the proceeds to buy a new Remington 18" barrel.
I put all of this together yesterday and went out to shoot it. I loaded one shell took the safety off, then nothing. What? No bang? No mark on the primer. OH, man thats what you get sticking old junk together. But wait, I disassembled everything and looked at the bolt. I pressed in the firing pin and it took forever to pop back out. So I took some "Wads Out" solvent and poured it on the bolt and within a few minutes the pin was moving like it should. I put her back together, loaded her up, and she fired just like a new one.
Some times you get lucky, if your patient.
