Default My son's first shotty

My son (age 11) just purchased his first rifle, a Rossi matched pair (.22/.410) with interchangeable barrels. I'm wondering how best to get him started with the concept of moving targets, etc. and what type of effective range to expect with a .410 (I don't have much shotgun experience myself either).

well election day is coming up and you two can always.....oh never mind

For a .22 check out the moving / spinning steel targets. Usually when younger shooters get some feedback from their shots they become much more interested instead of just shooting paper

I think if you are spending time shooting with an 11 year old then the experience will be wonderful and safety, discipline, and family recreation are the only goals. Unless you're raising a Tiger Woods.

I'm sure this will be a memorable momement for both of you for the rest of your lives.

This is my first gun. Probably 30 yrs old now.
Single shot 20 gauge. We reloaded shells and shot clay birds out back probably around age 10. A couple years before I was legal to hunt. It was easy to learn with.

It may seem silly, but those were simple days that I'm very fond of.

I have the matched pair. Your kid will need a pretty stout shoulder to take many shots from a 3" shell in that little gun. It bucks like a mule.

I don't use 3" for home defense and I weigh 225 pounds.
