Tandy Leather Factory, Allentown
OK, this isn't a gun shop, or a sporting goods store, but an actual leather shop. They supply tools and leather for leather crafting. I had found out about them on the web, when I went looking for a holster and discovered they had an inexpensive kit I could assemble myself. While in Allentown at the Fair Grounds gun show, I decided to drive the 3 miles to Union Street and take a look.
The store is run by a genial guy, Jeffery, who took the time to show a relative novice how to work on the project and what tools would be needed. (We'll see how it all turns out.) He invited me to call the shop if I had any questions. He actually seemed to enjoy his work and showed me a finished holster kit he had done, with the basic tools.
While I've only just started working on the holster, I decided I wanted the gun-belt kit, too, and ordered it over the Internet. Surprisingly, Internet orders are forwarded to the closest shop, and they send out the items. I placed the order at noon on Wednesday, and the package was waiting for me at home by 5, Thursday. A one day turn around! The one item out of stock was listed on a had written note inside the box with the store's phone number.
I can't express enough the professionalism displayed at the store, and the quickness of service. If you want to make your own holster, even without the 'hand carved embellishments', I can highly recommend Tandy Leather Factory for the supplies.
PS, it would seem to be a good place to pick up some Cowboy Action accessories, like knife sheaths, hat bands and even chaps, if your interested in working on them yourself.
