Default American Sport Shooting

I would like to share a story about Rich at American Sport Shooting. I was not able to put this out there before because it really hits home.

My wife and i both had our LTCF and she had always carried a Beretta 3032 tomcat(inox) that i bought for her as a present. While she loved the gun, after a couple years, she expressed to me how she would like a bigger caliber to carry.

In July of 2008 my wife was admitted to Hershey medical center to undergo 3 more months of the cancer treatment she had been going through since February 2007. While she was in the hospital and i was taking care of the kids, i went into Rich's shop and bought her a Kahr MK-40 as a coming home present, since she was supposed to be returning home after 3 months in the hospital.

On October 2nd, 2008, my wife lost her battle and passed away at the young age of 35. After that, and all the funeral arrangements and expenses, i did not want to keep the Kahr, i did not want to carry it.It was supposed to be HER gun.

I called Rich and explained to him what had happened, and asked how much i could get for it to try and make back some of the money i had spent on it.With a true sound of sorrow in his voice he simply asked me.."Did you shoot it yet?".....i said no, i hadn't shot it since it was for her.

"bring it back....I'll give you all your money back minus the tax."(Rich)

I couldn't believe it. i have NEVER in my life had a gun shop give me a full refund for a firearm. you could truly tell that Rich respected the human aspect of the situation and didn't just view me as a dollar sign.

I was so grateful for the refund when i took it back that i decided to contribute to his business after all, and, using the money from the refund, i left his shop with a new Sig p229 in .40. He did not have to do what he did. He CHOSE to be a compassionate person.

I have heard many people in the area comment that they think Rich has an "abrasive" personality, maybe he can at times, maybe that's just him in general, or maybe people get offended too easily, but i will say this:

I would rather deal with someone "abrasive" who is a stand up guy and treats me like a person, than i would give my money to someone who kisses my ass while digging in my wallet!

Sorry for your loss.

And as far as what Rich did, this doesn't suprise me. He reminds me of shop owners in the old days, caring more about a person than his money. My hats off to you Rich.
