I agree there. I can almost ALWAYS get more selling private then a trade in value at Cabelas or anywhere for that matter. But if you have something you just want to move and don't mind taking a little less they will take just about anything!

I had an old crappy Iver Johnson .32 that was beat to heck and I think they gave me $100 for it. I tired selling it privately for so long but it was something I wasnt able to move. Which is rare ...

I especially find that the fellow in the wheel-chair who oft times works in that Binocular Hut to be one of the most friendly and helpful people you could ever meet ... great person ... and believe it or not, he tells me he hunts ! I make it a point to say ' Hi ' to him whenever I go out there ... how many places do you know of that would give a guy with his physical disabilities a job ... God Bless Cabela's !

... I'll spend the extra dime , 'cause I'd be bitchin' if they closed up.[/quote]

I agree....that guy in the wheelchair is great. I forget his name...he does know alot about reloading & helped me with my 1st set up. Spent a lot of time with me answering all kinds of questions....and he did so very happily. Very knowledgeable & very nice....he seems to really enjoy his job (how many of us can say that?)!!

Plus their gun prices suck. They had a glock 23 for $560. I bought mine at On Target in Frackville for $490.

They may have a selection that goes deep, but I'd rather order it and get a good price from a local gun shop.
The only thing they have is selection. Prices suck there. They wanted to give me $200 for a used Taurus PT111 Pro back when I was trying to sell/trade it... I told the guy I could easily get around $300 for it on gun broker, but they didn't care so I didn't sell it to them.

Cabelas isn't Gun Broker - Cabelas isn't buying the gun to "play" with. They are buying it with intent to re sell. Hence the reason you don't get top dollar there, and NEVER will. You just have to accept that. Would you pay $300 for a mil pro to only turn around the next day and sell it? Probably not.

Exactly.

I agree with everyone that thinks their gun prices are high though. Their sale prices can be good, some of their prices on used guns are absurd.

Personally I was very turned off from Cabela's because a couple months ago my boyfriend and I went to buy a used .22 rifle so I could learn on it. We settled on a Winchester 77, if I can remember correctly. We took it up to the counter because it was missing the magazine. Not a problem, they couldn't find it and offered to take $25 off so we could purchase a mag. We were looking over the gun to realize that the saftey wasn't functioning. It wasn't just not functioning, it was not there. All the internals have been removed. We brought it to the sales reps attention and said we didn't want the gun because they wouldn't budge on the price even though it was damaged. I watched him re-shelf it without marking on the tag that it was missing a mag and didn't have a safety...

This made me leery about purchasing used from them. Any one else have an experience with them trying to sell broken merchandise as good condition?

I've never bought used from a retail store and probably never would. Always from a private seller. My theory (not that it's correct) is that someone with a gun that is not functioning or didn't take care of it, etc will sell to someone like Cabeals. Where as someone who takes care of their stuff will sell private to get top dollar.

Sig Girl - what department did you used to work in? I'm probably there 2 times a month ever since they opened. If I lived closer I'd get a job. Take me about an hour each way.

I totally agree. We were just looking for a cheap rifle for me to learn on and thought we could get something basic pretty cheap. Apparently overpriced and broken is how they do business...
