Koli01, I feel the same way!! "OMG!!!!!!!!" I screamed. I had been looking for that rifle for so long, ever since someone I know had gotten a lever action.

You have to keep looking, particularly at the Gun Library stuff. You can also look at the other stores' Gun Library inventories and have the item you want shipped to Hamburg. You have to pay for the shipping, of course.

BTW, Cabelas has the Mag Tech .38 rounds specifically made for lever action rifles. I had a hard time finding this type of bullet design elsewhere.

Unfortunately, or fortunately for my bank account, I live 4 hours away from the hamburg store and don't really care for the wheeling store (about 1.5 hours or less). My job used to take me out past hamburg (on way to nj) regularly. However, I do not go that way so often any more.

Like some other said on here, some things are good, some are bad. Their gun and ammo prices can be rediculous unless on sale. However, they are a good store for "everything" you need... kind of a one-stop-shop.

I paid around $560 for my new XDM-40 from a dealer... I was just curious next time I was at Cabelas, and they wanted around $670 for one used! That's just one example though... Like I said, on sale is a little bit different story, but most of the time.. I would not recommend for guns/ammo.

I like going there. I can spend hours there just walking around. Their fishing stuff is on par with almost everything I've seen elsewhere and their sales are generally better than any one else. Occasionally I purchase hunting stuff there. Their clothing is regoddamndiculously expensive but the quality cant be beat really unless I hit a really good sale I wont buy retail hunting clothes from them.

Their bargain basement on the other hand :-) You can get a lot of good stuff for good prices if they actually have what you are looking for.

I bought my kayak there and I really liked their selection of life vests, really cant find such a good selection anywhere else.

I'll be taking my cousin up this weekend to start pricing boots, etc for hunting, this will be his first year.

Here's the trick so your next gun purchase at Cabela's won't be "ridiculous".

Find a local shop that sells the gun, which probably will be cheaper. Cabela's price matches. Use one of their coupons and you'll save a ton.

I bought my G23 from Cabela's. They wanted $550 for it, and Boyer's wanted $480. Cabela's price matched the $480 and I used the coupon which gives $100 off a $500 purchase.

You know, I honestly didn't know they price matched. I have bought shotguns from there before, but nothing intricate. Do you need to present visual proof of the others price though?

I didn't either... I see stuff all the time for cheaper from them but didn't know they matched... anyone have a written policy on that?

Plus their gun prices suck ...

They may have a selection that goes deep, but I'd rather order it and get a good price from a local gun shop.

G - 17,

Cabela's is a little on the pricey side , but I look at it like the Navy commercial ... " It's not just a Sporting Goods Store, it's an Adventure ".

I understand your desire to get a bargain .. heck, that's just plain smart ... however, you can get good prices on many things at Cabela's and I don't care where you go, it's tough to beat their Service .. occasionally slow, but always willing.

I especially find that the fellow in the wheel-chair who oft times works in that Binocular Hut to be one of the most friendly and helpful people you could ever meet ... great person ... and believe it or not, he tells me he hunts ! I make it a point to say ' Hi ' to him whenever I go out there ... how many places do you know of that would give a guy with his physical disabilities a job ... God Bless Cabela's !

... I'll spend the extra dime , 'cause I'd be bitchin' if they closed up.

From the web site.......

Question

Do you price match?

Answer

We feel our prices are very competitive within the mail order industry, and we continue to strive to honor our commitment to sell quality products at a fair price. Due to the very nature of our business, we are unable to match other companies prices. We believe our retail prices are reasonable, our customer service far surpasses industry standards, and our promise to stand behind our merchandise with a 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee has contributed to Cabela's being considered the World's Foremost Outfitter since 1961.

A simple "no" would have been sufficiant.. lol They danced around the question enough. But yea, I didn't think I heard of the price matching before, but never really looked into it much. It figures though, that they wouldn't want to come down $150+ on some of their guns. If they're selling them to the city people who don't know better, they're happy suppliers. That's something that bothers me as well... seeing people in there not really knowing what they are doing, and buying a gun or ammo for 2x as much as they could be. You almost want to step up and offer them advice, but w/e.
