I went there this past summer with the other half and even she was impressed. The store has a big wow factor both inside and out. The mountain view from the parking lot was beautiful. Inside the store the display of animals was spectacular. The aquarium was very nice as well. I heard so much about the store that we made it a stop at one of our summer day trips.
I think all we bought was a knife as a gift for someone, (it wasn't cheap) and some things for my labrador. They do have just about everthing there. They are building a new Cabelas by Giant Stadium in Jersey so that would be a closer ride for us. I hope they do it justice. No mountains just the NY skyline |

Cabelas is a decent place, especially if you are with your family. Their used-gun rack often has some pretty good deals, but otherwise, they're pricey. I picked up my Glock 21SF from them a while back, but it was only reasonably worthwhile because of the $100 discount for opening a card account. And I got a Remmie 870 Tactical pretty cheap, on close-out. However, the sales people can be pushy, and many don't know what they're doing. Someone else mentioned having a rifle pointed at them when being shown. That happened to me, too. Blaeh! |

I was fortunate in having a good salesman the last time I was there (see my previous post). Also, the Hamburg store called me the next day to follow up on the problems I experienced. I appreciated the attention to customer service. Apparently, the store to blame for the difficulties was the Nebraska store. I filled out the online Cabelas survey, explaining my problems and pointing out the inconsistency to customer service. In my case, I gave the Hamburg store a positive write-up and a negative one for the NE store. |

I have had phenomenal help at Cabela's. You just have to go during the day in the slow season. Like buy a bow in May or June. Those bow techs were doing nothing, when I walked in I gave them something to do and they all helped me, almost too much. I got set up with an 800$ bow plus accessories for like 500$.
And when I was getting stuff for my kimber, I was once short on $ by a dollar, the guy in the gun section threw me a dollar so I could buy this tool. |

I went to look at Walther P22's specifically, and the salesman told me owning one was uselss because it wouldn't be practical for self defense. He handed me two different .40 pistols and told me it would be much better. Luckily, he got called away and they sent someone else over to help me. He told me that .40 wasn't enough, and tried to sell me a .45!
The next time I was there buying a gun, the woman making the background check call made fun of my sideburns for the 15 minutes I had to wait around for them to get their shit together. I have mixed feelings about Cabelas... |

We enjoy a trip to Cabela's every now and then. If I outdoor clothing or boots, I do not mind going there. As far as firearms, the local guns shops - Tanner's, the Handgunner, are the same if not cheaper- I priced out a HK USP .45. BUT! Check out the Port Clinton Hotel for lunch/dinner and the Peanut Factory for fresh roasted peanuts in an old fashion candy store - few miles north on 61.
