Oley February Lawn Flamingo Hunt Carbine/Pistol and separate sporting clays
Calendar: Shoots & Range Trips

Range: Oley Valley Fish & Game
Address: 112 Old State Road Reading PA

General Info:

Once grossly overpopulated in the continental United States during the late 50’s and early 60’s; the wild Pink Lawn Flamingo was thankfully thought to be endangered and nearing extinction…..

But Near Oley, PA, the PPGC (Pennsylvania Pink Game Commission) has just discovered a dangerously large colony of the great pink scourge and is opening a one day season for semi automatic rifles and handguns.

This may be the only opportunity in your lifetime to hunt with your AR-15, AK variants, or similar rifles. Bring at Least 120 rounds of rifle ammunition and 30 rounds of Pistol.

We’ll be hunting from up to 100 yards away in the open while standing as well as from blinds while kneeling and in prone variations- whatever it takes to fit in the blinds.

We’ll also hunt in teams with limited time exposures – these birds are very shy so speed and target selection will be just as important as accuracy.

Ostriches are also known to mingle in flamingo colonies and you will be able to engage these with your sidearm.

Targets will be a mixture of paper, reactive swingers, and knock downs.

Reservation link at bottom of the page.

Some of the birds will be sure to escape into the woods; you can also shoot the separate sporting clays course ($12 for 50 birds) before or after your range time. The sporting clays course can also be shot by itself and does not require a reservation - just show up between 9am and approximately 2 pm and shoot.

The Fine Print:

February's event is a Rifle / Carbine match with a sidearm side-stage. $15 / $10 OVF&G Members The sporting clays course is separate from the rifle portion and is $12 for 50 birds

This is a friendly, casual competition, but we are not casual about safety.

There will be two separate shooting squads. Expect approximately 3 1/2 hours to complete event. Mandatory safety meetings @ either 0930 and 1230.

Course of Fire may include some or all of the following: shooting while moving, standing, kneeling, prone, and prone variations. Expect weak and strong side shooting.

Carbine/Rifle Maximum Distance to Target 110 Yards
Pistol Maximum Distance to Target 100 Yards
Minimum Round Count: Pistol 30, Rifle/Carbine 120
BRING EXTRA

Shooters new to competitive events are welcome. Each participant must know how to safely operate their weapon(s) before attending.

We shoot in most any weather, but Cof is subject to change according to conditions.

This is a participant driven event: When not shooting, participants will be aiding in the timing, scoring, and taping of targets.

Equipment Requirements:

Eye and ear protection
Chamber Flag (spares are available at event)
Rifle carry slings are not required

Semi-automatic or bolt action permitted.
Centerfire or rimfire permitted.
Magazine or clip fed (such as Garand, SKS) actions both permitted.
Tube and internal box fed actions are NOT PERMITTED.

Muzzle brakes are allowed, but not encouraged in consideration of your fellow shooters.
Chest rigs, vests, or mag holders are not required.
Tracers are not permitted.

Important Safety and Procedural Information:

Participants must know now to safely operate their firearms before attending.

These practices include, and are not limited to, the NRA gun safety rules described here:http://www.nrahq.org/education/guide.asp
This is a muzzle down club.
All rifles and any sidearms not carried on one's person are to be transported to firing line cased and remain cased until after initial safety briefing.
No handling of weapons on firing line while personnel are down range
No handling of weapons out of case or on racks except during allotted times or after request to or instructed by the RSO.
Firearms carried on person need to be cleared before rifle-only stages.
Inform the RSO if you will need to clear your carry firearm at safety briefing.
All attendees are responsible for their own actions including each round fired. In addition, if one is uncomfortable with any part or entirety of the event, it is their responsibility to notify the RSO and not participate in any or all parts of the event.
Any accommodations to the participants in the interest of safety will be considered.

I'll be there with my heavily modified .50BMG flamingo rifle. Just kidding, but I will be there for the afternoon session.

Yes, but you will have to skip some of the knock down and reactive targets, or you can just bring brass 5.56x45 and use mine.. but you still need to bring your 15-22. If you are familiar with the operation of the 15-22 you will be fine with a centerfire Armalite rifle.

We are all full now.

Reminder to all:

We shoot in rain or snow, but CoF may be altered as necessary.

Please also bring:

chamber flag, eye and ear protection
Exact change (preferred but we do have some change)
Footwear for muddy conditions.
Pen or marker
Tape or stickers (clear tape is fine – club has tape, but more is always faster when scoring)
11x14 photograph of Rita Hayworth (optional)
Shooting mat or blanket (optional)
mag holders/vests/rigs are not needed

Mag stacks: we will start with up to 6x10 round mags, then 2x30 round mags. If you only have 4 mags, just stack them to 10.

Pistol mags 3x10 round

Bring extra ammo.

There will be time to load mags at event.

If you want to the shoot the separate 50 bird sporting clays course ($12 more), they are only until 3ish, so if you are in the afternoon group it would be best to arrive before
10 am get them done in time. If you were to run past 12:30 though, it would not be problem just to join us then... you would most likely be able to make up any missed portion.

I’m not posting the exact CoF

One of the firing line stages will be a fire on command scenario: You will start prone with an obstructed view of targets (as if you are in bird blind but not looking out), then on command pop up to kneeling and supported prone then engage two flamingos within 4 seconds and stop.

Other Cof info: (Shoot vs No Shoot Target Identification)

To the other guy shooting an AK, I have one of your surplus mags. You left it on the rifle rack, I'll see you at one of the next few shoots or we can meet one weekend if you need it. Just PM me.
