Any thoughts on what each is best suited for, and any comments from experience?

Thanks!
It's hard to beat an SKS for the price.

More money than a SKS, but those Vector AK47 Classic rifles look really good for a tick over $500.

I absolutely love my Yugo SKS. After I bought it, I nearly forgot about my Hi-Point carbine! The Hi-Point is a good bargain, but after having shot the Sub 2000 this weekend, I would recommend it over the HP any day of the week. HP=10 rd. mags/Sub 200 takes Glock mags(depending on model).
They're both ugly(although the HP wins handily in that department), and they're both easy to shoot. 9mm isn't too costly(yet), so see if you can lay your hands on one and see how it feels.

How would you rate the sub 2000 in comparison to the yugo sks? What are the distance (range) differences? Advantages of one over the other? I'd like to stick in the price range of the aforementioned guns so I think an AK is out.

car vs truck.

They are different animals... depends on the intended purpose.
If you want to plink at 50 yards, buy the 9mm, want to hit a zombie at 100 yards, buy the SKS!

Sorry for the short answer... gotta run!

Fully interested in plinking zombies!!! So where does that leave me?
Would an SKS be overkill for plinking @50? I'd like to cover all bases up to and surpassing 100 yards, if possible.

I have a Sub2000. Its beyond awesome. Take into account also that an SKS is relatively bulky, while the Sub2000 folds in half, and you could potentionaly conceal if you chose to do so. Plus Glock 33rd mags are relatively small and inexpensive ($24 at its cheapest) you could very easily carry a lot of firepower without advertising to the world that you have a rifle on you, as would be the case with an SKS.

And while an SKS might never break, a Kel Tek Sub2000 carries a lifetime warranty that passes through owners.

Has anyone had experience with a Saiga? From what I read they've been getting good reviews, the price is right, and they look great.

I like to think I was doing pretty good with my chineese SKS at 200 yards about a month ago. You could probly reach out a little bit fauther then that but i'm not sure how much and still be aracuate with the 7.62x39 round and its low velociety.
