Re: Political correctness
I am older and a Veteran. So when describing Long arms , I will say Rifle or Weapon.
"put bullets down range"
"ready your weapon"
"...without my rifle I am nothing..."
I highly doubt that "a-hats" even know someone that served, so not only can't they understand the love of firearms, they have no concept of a weapon.
A publication has to worry about those A-hats destroying their publication...so there is nothing like peer pressure right?
I personally own a baseball bat and I have never played baseball. Besides pick-up softball leagues I've never played the sport. So the baseball bat in my house, is in fact only there to be a weapon. If my wife won't touch a gun maybe she'll swing for the bleachers!

Re: Political correctness
I disagree. Baseball batts were originally invented to woo a mate upside the head so you could go make cave-babies without an arguement. So when I am a little league coach, I will refer to the batt as a weapon."Use your weapons to smash, maim, KILL the ball, kids."
firearms may have been invented to bo the original bottle rocket holders for dazzling firework displays in the days of ol'. Perhaps. maybe not to kill, but to amaze crowds of asians a long time ago?
Also, I once used a jagged dorito as a weapon. When all else fails, improvise.
Taught that punk a lesson. Gave him a lasting case of doritophobia.
Now, I always keep a spare bag o' doritos close at hand, just in case...
...You never know...Don't take anything I say seriously, unless I say seriously. Seriously.

I've always carried a hickory pick handle in my pickup. A cop at Turkey Hill saw it laying on the back seat once & said that it could be considered a weapon. I stared him down & told him, "No. It's a frickin' pick handle. One never knows when one will run across a pick that needs one." he went inside to get his free coffee & let me alone.
