Default Looking for my first rifle

Alright everyone, heres a thread thats bound to get some replies.

I have 4 handguns and one shotgun, but I am now interested in looking for my first rifle. I would like some feedback on what would make a first good target rifle (ie: bolt actions, lever, etc), and what caliber would be advisable for whatever reason, safety, budget, ease of use. I dont have a preference of manufacturer, caliber or anything, so I will be taking alot of advise that comes from here. I have a 40 S&W, 9MM, 357, and so on, so I am not afraid to take a good kick with a rifle, but would like to have some good 100 and 200 yard range time with a good rifle.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

my advice because of my recent purchase is .223 - especially if you're going to be mostly target shooting - ammo is cheap, you can reload it and mine turned out to shoot about a one inch group at 200 yds. out of my weatherby vanguard. that was with factory loads - let's just say i was quite impressed with the gun and it's one of the best guns i've purchased so far. another big plus is minimal recoil - really can help get those small groups - at least for me......... shooting a shotgun shell on edge at 100 yards is cake work with a 20 power scope - i have alot of fun with the gun, but i am by no means an expert - i'm actually pretty new to shooting scoped rifles - just started in the last year or so - before that it was all iron sights, lol. but that's just my recommendation .........

i like it alot - besides the fact that i can shoot it all day for cheaper than an arcade game, it's pretty darn accurate for a .22 handgun..........

A Remmy 700 or Savage 110 in .308 is hard to beat for a PA rifle....

That from a barrel burnin' hot rodder!

I have a hunting riffle a Ruger m77 in 30/06 that I purchased because I reload and you can get a pretty wide rang of ballistics with that cartridge plus you can still find military ammo.

I would not rule out a Savage 'varmint" rifle with an Accu trigger. Check this out.

don't let the retail price on the site scare you

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=78629357

I have seen these things shoot sub 1 inch groups at 100 all day long with factory ammo.

The Savage is a nice possibility. I like the looks, and the technical specs on it. That will be an add on my list of what to look at when I get to Cabelas
