i have a savage mark 2 heavy barrel, w/6x24 target scope, it's ok but can't shoot as well as a CZ or a 52 winchester or tula

it shoots best with sub-sonic ammo at 25 yards 3/8 groups 50 yards dime groups all with a few fliers. 100 yards we shoot sticks if side-walk chalk after sighting in, i do about 50 to 60 % the Tula and the win 52 and the cz do much better

for the money a russian Tula .22 lr shoots any ammo just as well or as better as my savage (very ammo fussy)

A buddy of mine has a Anschutz sporter he has had since about 1965 and it was always the best shooting .22 sporter i've seen, last winter I got CZ 452 American and it out shoots his anschutz and is more stable, and supprisingly the first shot with CCI mini-mag hp goes right to point of aim. Bulk ammo almost shoots good enough but has too many fliers to be counted on.

Well, the average person...I'm not talking about a professional shooter. LOL
My point was that the iron sights would be better for developing marksmanship and skill, but just my opinion. I think shooting can be more than just hitting the target with the latest gear...

You are very right. I respect your opinion and agree. I learned to shoot with iron sights and for that I am thankful for I believe it made me a better shot than I would have been if I started off with just a scoped gun.

I was just stating that at some point in time he MAY want to get optics. I love scopes on lower caliber arms...They are good fun.

The decision is his...Not mine I am just saying what I would do.

But yes once you stretch out your yardage to 50 even 75 to 100 yards you will want to get a good scope for that.

Just my opinion
Homeboy, try some Wolf MT...or Eley and you are going to throw out all that Federal junk.
