Now I know some of you don't believe that the .223 is accurate much past 300 yards, but here's a video to show you that it can be shot a great deal further accurately. This is a DPMS AR-15 (.223), and this man takes it to 680 yards and makes consistent hits. I ain't saying everybody should be doing this, just that it can be done. Oh yeah, check out the vapor trace as he lets the lead/copper fly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJWLP81qCAE It's pretty amazing how accurate we can make factory semiautomatic rifles these days.

WoW you can see just how much of an arch the bullet travels from the weapon to the target that far away.

You're very welcome, I thought it was some pretty nice shooting and would kind of show off how accurate some of the AR's are now, and what some people can do with them.

I loved hearing the ding everytime he shot!.
And I also liked the arch of the bullet travel. |

Well.....there are a LOT of people who shoot the AR at 600 yards with open sights all the time......and hit targets all the time.

That was cool...I don't think I could see the target at 600 yds with iron sights!
But with glass...I'd hit it!

Oh I know there are lycanthrope. I just have had some people on this forum tell me that the .223 isn't good past 300 yards, and that it isn't an accurate round out to that distance, regardless of the rifle. That's why I figured I'd post this up.

When the Marines qualify with he M16 they shoot from 200, 300, and 500 yards. They were using the A2 while I was still in. I have heard since they changed to the M4 they may be eliminating the 500 yard course of fire.

That's odd, the main gripe I hear about it being no good past 300/400 or whatever yards is NOT that's it inaccurate, it's that it's not terribly potent at that point (mostly concerning military rounds).
