Default AR Buttstock Help

Gonna start getting things gathered for my first AR build. I had a Colt that I bought completed and traded. I have an Anvil Arms lower.

Gonna put together a "Xmas wish list" for my wife and mother. I am gonna ask for a LPK, buttstock and some other things.

I want to get a MagPul MOE buttstock (nothing fancy). I notice that they come in mil-spec and commercial. Which one do I want? Is the mil-spec the standard?

Anvil Arms lower would be Mil Spec I believe.

Quote:
Our lower receivers are 100% “Mil-Spec” EXCEPT that the actual “Mil-Spec” includes the ability to fire fully automatically. Our upper and lower receivers meet every other dimension and tolerance in the specification except for that one area, where by federal law, they are not allowed to.

The lower does not play into the equation.

The receiver extension (RE) does (the buffer tube). The threads are the same between commercial and .mil...the only difference is the tube on the .mil version is machined down to a smaller diameter. Whatever RE you buy will dictate what stock you need.

If you have not bought a RE yet, but a .mil one. It will keep more options available to you.

Thanks Guys!

When you say RE is that the same thing as a buffer tube? I'm looking at the AR schematic drawings. Just want to make sure I got everything and all parts are compatible!

Will I also need a buffer and springs, etc.

This is the part I am looking at -->

Yes, thought I made that clear.

Buffer tube is the common slang for the part, receiver extension is the proper terminology, and probably what you'll see in parts diagrams or books on the topic.

I re-read your post ~ yes you did make that clear! sorry man ~ remember your dealing with a monkey .

Synergy, I will need a buffer tube and spring, correct. Since I don't have an upper yet I should probably wait on those till I decide on an upper
.

I'm not Synergy - but you can buy the complete stock kit (buffer tube, buffer and spring) it wont matter much what upper you go with.

Where is a good place to buy the kit?

See Synergy's post right above yours - he gave a link and all.

EDIT - or you could buy the complete kit with the MOE stock from here too http://www.pkfirearms.com/content/1/20/11/31?page=2
