The story is that they bought another distributor, and from the looks of their inventory its not the normal inventory that they stock so it looks like they are just getting rid of them. Great rifle at a great price.

Wonder not; he finally had his order arrive - but it coincided with the dismal economy and the endemic fears of am-I-next job loss (or housing loss for those without the income).

Almost every gunshow I've been to or storefront retailer I've browsed thru has had EBRs available - when 9mos ago you couldn't find them anywhere. Same with AKs.

As sweet and tearful as this deal is, many of us will turn away.

You are very correct when saying great rifle at a great price. And good of you to share it here. Plus 1

When Mr Jackson neg rep'd me he asked me to substantiate my comments about his prior trolling against Colt so I will oblige him.

First, take that chart with a huge grain of salt!
The majority of it is just some requirements by the government contracts, whether the requirements make sense or not (remember the $600 toilet seat?).
Worst rifle (AR type) I ever had dealings with was a Colt Hbar (back in the 80's). Nice looking rifle, but couldn't get through a magazine wthout a jam or two. I was going to buy the rifle until I tried it. Turned me off AR's until the mid-90's.
There's some guys who swear by Colts...obviously, I think they're way overrated.

As far as Daniel Defense...read about 'em, but that's about it. Better? Who knows? More expensive doesn't necessarily mean a better rifle.

BTW, my choice, after a fair amount of research, was a Rock River Arms. Nice gun, goes bang when I pull the trigger. More accurate then I am and costs less then a grand.

How is ensuring that quality materials are used, and thoroughly testing a product bad?

Quote:

.

First off, the rifles built today are far different than the commercial rifles of the 80's. Secondly, this IS the reason that the chart is worth a grain of salt.

Quote:
Nice looking rifle,
Don't they all look alike or did you just like the Pony?

Quote:

Who knows, maybe it was the mags causing the malfuntions and or failures.

Quote:

So, you didn't actually own one you just shot one? How can you offer an opinion when you have no experience with it?

Quote:

Obviously you have plenty of reasons to think this, even though you haven't owned one.

Quote:

So why offer an opinion if you know NOTHING about them?

Quote:

Should have used the chart, you could have bought a higher quality rifle for probably less money at the time.

Quote:
Nice gun, goes bang when I pull the trigger.
And how often would that be?

Bold = my response.

Additional response by another member

Quote:
So, where is you experience with AR's? How do you shoot them? Plinking and target shooting? Training classes? High round count drills? Competition?

I think you'll have a difficult time trying to refute The Chart...but if you want to point to the specific areas where you think it is flawed, please point them out so we can debate them.

So your experience was with 1 commercial Colt 20 years ago, which you didn't lube up yourself...with 1 magazine...and that makes Colts junk?

I've had Aimpoints, Colts, and Glocks tank on me....they are still some of the best manufacturers in their respective markets.
More brilliance from Mr Jackson
Quote:
Had 2 AR's...a pre-ban DPMS (decent rifle s long as it was fed match ammo) and the RRA.
I shoot the AR monthly...normally 3-5 mags (30 rounds each).

Then, there was the military...but that was an M-16 waaaay back when (Navy, member of the ship's self defense force and most of the shooting was done off the fantail).

Frankly, the ammo in the 80's is about the same as today...more "match grade" ammo now though. So are the rifles...why would you think there is any difference?

As far as the testing: The DoD always overtests and overdesigns the stuff it buys. Hell, most of you bitch about the extra dollars DoD spends on testing (higher taxes) which many consider wasteful...and it is. Been in QA for 30 years, both as a defense supplier and in commercial industries, so I do know the difference. An example...Colt performs magnetic particle inspection on their military barrels. Metals rarely crack during manufacture or heat treatment. They do crack in usage, but that's not when they're tested. Other companies (RRA, for one) test to ensure the process is correct, then pull samples. Cheaper, and just as effective (anyone heard of an RRA barrel...or Bushmaster..or any barrel cracking or failing unless there was a squib load?).

So, I think that answers most the questions asked...

Also, it wasn't that long ago (90's) when Colt was not a friend to civilian gun owners...and their quality left much to be desired. To us who were into guns back then, Colt still has a lot of work to do earn our trust.

More comments from other members.

Quote:
I don't. The Chart addresses a LOT more than MPI testing. Coincidentally, HP testing would be an example of testing a rifle "in use".
And more.

Quote:
My Colt LE6920 has been great so far about 2000 round put down range with no problems what so ever. Will shoot anything I put in her steel case or brass wolf, brown bear etc. Chicks dig the cute Pony on the side to

So lets put it all together shall we.

Mr Jackson has never owned a Colt but knows that they are overpriced and overrated.

Mr Jackson views the chart as nonsense and even though SME (guys who trust their LIFE to AR's) put it together over a years period of time.

Mr Jackson shoots his RR 900-1500 a YEAR and can deduce from that, that it is just as good as a rifle that most heavy users shoot 15,000-45,000 rounds a year in both training and heavy use classes.

Mr Jackson believes there is no need to use MPI testing.

Mr Jackson believes that DoD over test weapon systems even though soldiers lives depend on those same weapons.

I could go on and on but I think that answers the question that he asked.

Thanks again for the neg rep Mr Jackson. The funny thing is that he neg rep'd me because he thought I had neg rep'd him. Truth be told I only neg rep'd him after he neg rep'd me for no reason. I do not care for trolls and IMHO that is exactly what he is.

Ha HA, that's too funny. I wouldn't have wasted my typing time - you're a good man. What's even more funny is that when I neg rep'd him (for trolling)he said he was going to report me for abuse of the rep system - oh and he felt the need to call me Lad and son.

I guess you just can't make everyone happy all the time.

Thanks again for passing on the great deal!!!! I'd rep ya but my button is broken.

It is, was it is, as they say. He also called me son, but I kinda liked it considering I turn 40 this month. The funny thing, is that I wasn't going to neg him until he accused me of neging him and then tried to tell me he wasn't a Colt troll in his neg rep to me.

See to me here's the thing, if I don't care for a brand I use the Bambi rule, I will say nothing, or nothing negative and congratulate the member on their new firearm, even if I think they could have done better. If I am asked for an opinion, I will offer it and try and guide them in a direction that I believe will help them down the road. If they take it, that's great, if not, that's fine to.

People that know me know that I am a huge Colt 1911 guy, however that doesn't stop me from consistently recommending SA and some others when the time is appropriate. I personally believe the SA GI is one of the better values in the market that has great long term potential for improvement down the road as the user needs to. I don't allow brands to cloud my opinion and recommendation, I allow quality to do that!

Simply put I believe in buying quality and spending whatever it takes the first time. I learned long ago in my youth, that when you buy cheap, you end up spending more in the long run.
