I guess this is why the AR vs AK debate always has to come up over and over again... People need the education.

The modern AR platform is extremely reliable. While most conventional soldiers don't get to choose which rifle they take to battle with them, Special Ops soldiers and civilian contractors do. You might be interested to know that the AR is a very popular choice among Special Ops and civilian contractors who do in fact have to rely on them in 'a real life combat scenario.' Keep in mind, there is a big difference between a first run M-16 and a modern M-4.

I would be comfortable taking either the AR or the AK into battle as both are very reliable, and both are very accurate in terms of an individual combat rifle. My guess is that people that bash the AR either watch too much TV, or have not had to rely on a rifle in 'a real life combat scenario' since the '70s.

AR for me.

ARs are lighter
AR ammo is lighter
ARs have superior ergonomics
ARs are more accurate
ARs are more configurable
ARs are very reliable, too

I think one of the main attractions towards the AK platform was the availability of cheap surplus ammo the Russians were flooding the country with a few years ago. I know that is why I bought an AK style rifle. There was a time when you could buy those sardine cans of like 1000 rounds very cheaply. That simply is not the case anymore.

I have come to the conclusion the AR platform is much more versatile and modular. Allowing the swapping of parts from many manufacturers. With the AK you have to worry about all that 922(r) US parts bullshit.

The main reason to own and flaunt an AK is just to piss off Nancy Pilosi and the rest of her ilk. It reminds them what a beating they took after the 1994 Clinton gun ban.

There seem to be good reasons to have a few of each!

I'm gonna have to say the AK, that being said the AR platform does have far better ergonomics, is more accurate, and is a reliable weapon, and it is our nation's weapon of choice, but that as all been stated already. For me though, there is just something about the AK that I love...maybe it's because it's the "most evil" of the "evil black guns"

i choose AR - shoots better and looks cooler then the AK , i fired an AK its ok i can do way better with my Bushmaster then i can an AK .

Another reason if the AR breaks easier to acquire parts .

AR for me.
Just because someone is in the military, and even deployed to a combat zone, doesnt mean they have seen combat.

I chose the AR.
In my opinion they are more versatile and configurations in multiple calibers always makes it a very good choice.

I went with the AR for enjoyable shooting, and customizability.
If we were going on power, obviously I would take the AK. But for overall preferability, I went with the AR.
