Default Marlin 880SQ review

I picked up a slightly used Marlin 880SQ from Seneca Arms 2 weeks ago. I just got it back from The Handgunner in Topton. I had Randy thread the barrel and add a thread protector for my suppressor. The 880 is a fine shooting 22LR. I had a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5x14 Mil Dot scope and BKL mounts. The 880 is a few inches longer compared to the 10/22. Once I sighted in the scope, it was easy to put 5 rounds into one hole at 50 yards. The ammo that shot the best was the Aguila SE subsonic. Wolf Match Target also shot very well in this rifle. I was actually getting better groups with the suppressor, compared to shooting the rifle without the suppressor.

If you get the opportunity to shoot an 880 or purchase one...I'd highly recommend this rifle. I will be using mine for small game hunting this upcoming season.

Must have something to do with the barrel harmonics. If you were to try shooting groups with flash hiders of different weights, that may affect your grouping as well.

I've heard a few people who own suppressors, say that it improves accuracy.

I bought the same gun when they first came out and I put on a 2-7 power weaver scope on it. Man that thing shot great! It was my dedicated ground hog gun(I'm a special regs hunter no centerfire rifles allowed) But that gun was awesome with .22lr quick shok ammo.

Not being able to use centerfire sucks in this area. I'd rather use a centerfire over a shotgun for hunting anyday, but we must use what is legal.

I'll be honest with you I'm 35 now and have been hunting for 17 years and it's mostly all special regs hunting so I really don't know what I'm missing. I guess if I hunted with centerfire for years and HAD to switch over to shotguns and rimfires I'd be a little cranky. Have you tried Blackpowder hunting yet? They say a magnum charge of 150gr. will get you 200yd shots. I only use 100gr. I usually don't come across long shots like that where I hunt. But If you hunt farmland I could see some possible long shots.

I had a Knight inline ML, but never used it, so I sold it to a friend. The new inlines are suppose to be able to get 200 yard shots.

I just prefer longer shots and I'd rather use a 243 or 308 for whitetail...versus being limited with ammo and range with a shotgun.

ETA: I just started hunting 3 years ago, so I'm still enjoying getting out into the woods. I will mostly be archery hunting this season, as my hunting time will be limited.

I picked up an 880SQ new when they first came out... never hear much about them, but it's a great little .22 - I have a 3-9x scope on mine. If timing was right I'd pick up another if I was given the chance.

Now I want a suppressor to try on mine!

The 880 SQ has been discontinued by Marlin.

You should definately purchase a suppressor. It is super quiet compared to the 10/22 suppressed. Both shoot the Aguila SE very well, but the edge goes to the Marlin for tighter groups and for sound suppression.
